Seven High Tech Systems to Install in your Office

The world is a-changing, and with each new year, high-tech companies are rolling out new products that improve our lives in ways we never thought possible. What’s more, many of those companies devote their time and knowledge to bettering the workplace, to enable both their employers and employees much smoother sailing in their everyday life.

Knowing that, in the best-case scenario, our job takes nine hours out of our day, it’s only natural they aim to make the time pass quicker, the work a little easier and a lot more fun, and the office a much safer place.

And here are our top picks.

Cyber Security

The first item on our list is a far cry from a fancy new technological gimmick, but rather a PSA. Getting top-notch security is simply a must in this day and age. No matter how well you form the NDA (non-disclosure agreement) with your employees, it’s all for nothing if every piece of information is readily accessible on company computers.

Having a sign-in password may ward off less skilled information thieves, but others will have little difficulty in hacking into your server and getting what they need.

Standing Desks

A seemingly simple trend continues to take the modern offices by storm. As many researchers have proved by now, sitting at your desk for extended periods of time is detrimental for the neck, upper and lower back, and can even risk leg and joint problems.

That is why many employers are opting for not-so-cheap but ever-so-effective standing desks for their employees.

Their height is manually adjusted via a small pad directly underneath, to accommodate different user needs.

Electronic Whiteboards

The third item on our list, Google’s Jamboard, deserves a very warm welcome. It pretty much revolutionises brainstorming sessions. At its core, it functions like a regular virtual whiteboard – people can open files, play videos and presentations on it, while also using it to draw and write on open documents.

However, it comes with a feature that connects it to other Jamboards in other offices, so that different teams can look at the same board in real time. It’s perfect for smaller meeting rooms where several teams need to collaborate but don’t have the space.

TV Dashboard

More of an ingenious idea rather than an actual product – a wall-mounted TV in a prominent place in the office. You can use it to display data concerning your company: whether it’s the sales of a particular product, the development timeline of an app currently in the works, user comments and feedback, or stats concerning the company overall.

You can even put it to a vote to see what the employees would find the most useful to circulate on the dashboard. This serves as a good motivation booster, and enhances company transparency.

Fluorescent Light Diffusers

Fluorescent lights are known to be unfavourable among employees. Combine them with the glare of the computer screen and the one from their phones, and you have a recipe for ocular disaster. Not to mention that fluorescent lighting has negative effects on morale and productivity. Installing proper diffusers can help vastly, since entire galleries of these diffusers go so far as to have stained glass designs that even add certain “pizazz” to your office.

They’re pleasant to look at, highly functional, and will in a way boost productivity.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems

Going back to our safety advice, it’s highly recommended you upgrade or install (if you don’t have them already) advanced HVAC systems. Needless to say, air quality and proper heating and cooling are extremely important. Ensuring your employees are comfortable is an obligation, just like their safety. Check your fire ducts for faulty installations, as well as your electrical wiring and plumbing.

Upgrade anything and everything you can when it comes to the office’s “anatomy”, because one slip-up can spell disaster to all your hard work.

Visitor Management Systems

These systems are high-tech nuggets of gold for small businesses that can’t afford a bigger staff. If you don’t have a receptionist, a visitor management system in the form of a specialised computer takes note of not only employee check-ins and check-outs, but also of any deliveries being made to the office, and client visits.

Furthermore, it keeps a backlog of all these events, storing it for a very long time. You will be aware of everyone who came into your office, and have no difficulties pulling up the information at any time.

In the End…

There are plenty of different companies and products to choose from, and the decision can’t and shouldn’t fall on your shoulders alone. When thinking about sprucing up your office with a new piece of tech, make sure the equipment suits your company needs, and your employees’ habits and health status.

Make an office-wide survey or a questionnaire to get a feel for what they would want to see in the office.
