UEFA’s Guy-Laurent Epstein talks about the Euro 2020, the Europa League and esports

The journalists sit down for a brief exchange of questions with the UEFA marketing director to get the latest news from the continental football governing body's projects before Euro 2020 and beyond. Sports fanatics from all over the world can buy Euro Cup Tickets online to enjoy its stunning performances.

As the UEFA Champions’ League group stage kicks off this week, UEFA will breathe a sigh of relief as discussions on the competition finally return to the questions on the pitch.

Months of debate over the reform reforms of Europe's elite football clubs had resulted in nothing more than putting the proposals aside earlier this month, as the teams failed to get the ball rolling behind the polarizing plans, which included weekend meetings and promotion and relegation of the tournament.

This question will come back and if the long road to the Champions League final in Istanbul next May started in July, it is just one of the many trips that UEFA will embark on in a season could be decisive for the future of the governing body of continental football.

Euro 2020 is about to turn 60, a third-tier European club competition is about to come to fruition, and the Uefa.tv streaming service is entering its first season to make the Women's Euro 2021 the biggest event of women's football history, you would hardly accuse UEFA of playing security.

The game is ready for the organization and it will please, said Guy-Laurent Epstein. Euro 2020 is marking its 60th anniversary by being played across the continent.

We wanted to celebrate 60 years of the Euros by bringing the tournament to the people rather than the people to the tournament. We’ve taken it to places that wouldn’t normally have the ability to host it on their own because it’s a big animal. We are going to countries that wouldn’t be able to do that.

The approach is a celebration, bringing Euro across Europe. Logistically and organizationally that has its challenges but in each country what we’ve asked for from the local organizing committee or federation is not much.

It’s having a stadium with a reasonable capacity, an international airport, and a reasonable hotel capacity so fans can travel there. Compared to hosting a full Euro, which is very complex for one country, we’re now asking less for each individual country. It’s simpler. On a local base the impact is reduced.

For us, it’s the coordination that is more complex but it’s shaping up very well and they work with the local organizing structure is working well. Then we have the production in the middle of that which is covering the 12 countries where there are some challenges, again with the coordination. But we’re going in the right direction. It’s a different challenge but a good challenge.
