How To Turn On Your Garmin GPS With A USB Cable?

Most of the latest GPS devices from leading manufacturers, such as Garmin, are equipped with a USB cable. It is primarily intended to connect GPS to a computer, which allows users to install or back up new maps, tracks or points of interest.Garmin devices that are equipped with an in-built charging facility charge the battery from a USB connection, which you may find a bit slow, but then, it is going to extend the battery life. The USB cable does not turn on the GPS directly, but there is nothing to worry, as there are alternative ways to do so.

USB Basics

If using a standard USB cable, then keep in mind that it uses a four-wire connection for transferring data and low voltage power among devices

The small micro-USB connectors used in smartphones, GPS and other compact electronic devices feature a fifth wire. It isn’t connected between the devices, but the wire is used in place of a small circuit, which indicates how the multi-use connector is used. You need to tell your Garmin device that particular thing if you are looking to use USB connector for data transfer or charging. Generic USB cables are only for data transfer. Before turning on your Garmin device, make sure to have a reliable AC or DC power supply along with a USB power cable or micro-USB connector.

AC adapters

The Garmin product line comprises a large number of power supplies designed to connect to AC or DC outlets and deliver a 5-volt DC input that is needed by the handheld device. These are divided into three categories. The AC adapters incorporate a tiny block, which will be inserted into the power outlet, with the cable having micro-USB connection on the end of the GPS.

DC cables

Garmin DC power cords are available in two styles. In one style, you will find a 12-volt cigarette lighter, which is plugged at one end with other end having a micro-USB connection. Its internal circuit changes the 12 volts DC by 5 volts DC to lightening up the GPS device. As far as the second style of the power cable is concerned, then it consists of simple wires on one end and can be connected directly to the fuse block of the car or attached to your electrical system. A micro-USB connection has been given on the other end for the GPS device. These cables are designed in such a way that those are installed permanently in the vehicle. Some will turn on your GPS, whereas others will just be used for charging other devices.

Cables sold as accessories

Several companies manufacture cables and chargers for Garmin GPS devices. There are a number of devices that compete on rates, providing a similar functionality at a lower price. Others focus on improving comfort or solving certain problems. For example, accessory cables could offer connectors for unusual angles, which allows users to house a power cable in their preferred support.Others offer special features, such as waterproofing and weatherproofing, safeguarding the GPS and its power while riding on bicycles or off-road vehicles.
