CSCS Card types

CSCS Card types are accessible to view through the official site of Construction Skills Certification Schemes. Professionals and candidates can use the CSCS card finder tool to find a suitable card according to the occupation and qualification. The CSCS card is a recognition for the training and work skills possessed by a candidate. An individual possessing a CSCS Card can build confidence with his or her client while working on a project. Owning a CSCS card is not a compulsory requirement while working in the construction industry. However, if a candidate does possess a card, then he or she can find many opportunities to build a career in the industry. There are different types and colours of cards which are recognised in the construction sector. The CSCS issue labourer, apprentice, experienced technical/supervisor, experienced worker, trainee card, skilled worker, supervisory, manager and academically qualified cards. These cards can be obtained by gaining qualifications.

Example of obtaining cards through qualifications

  • The CIOB Qualifications- the Chartered Institute of Builder professional qualifications provide an opportunity for the candidate to apply for a CSCS card. The regulated UK CIOB qualification, the CIOB Level 4 Certificate and Diploma in Site Management helps a candidate to obtain a managerial card from the CSCS. The 2-year course providing a certificate in year 1 offers the candidate to be eligible to apply for a CSCS white Card, and the diploma offers the candidate to obtain a CSCS Black Card.
  • NVQ Qualification- An NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Site Management will not only provide the candidate with an opportunity to apply for the CSCS Black Card. But also help a candidate to progress to become an MCIOB or an Assoc RICS of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Candidates can obtain these opportunities through enrolling to a suitable qualification. The CIOB course and NVQ qualification are available through online courses provided by the College of Contract Management.

Benefits of obtaining a CSCS managers card

  • The CSCS card is proof that the candidate possesses the occupational training and qualification to work as a professional in the industry. Owning a CSCS managers card will build trust, confidence and professionalism with clients.
  • Candidates who work with a CSCS card will have many opportunities to work with highly rated projects in the industry.
  • A black CSCS card is a professional recognition in the industry which will help a candidate find jobs with professional construction firms in the sector.
