CAA Protest Damage Recovery Notice to 372 People in Uttar Pradesh

Massive damage to the public property was done by anti CAA protestors, following which the Uttar Pradesh government has struck notices on 372 people (out of 478 identified) to recover damages. It has quoted a set of Supreme Court recommendations from 2007 and a 2011 Allahabad High Court order to justify this recovery by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declaration “badla” (revenge) on rioters.

After the complete analysis of protests and subsequent action taken by administrations of at least six states, including Uttar Pradesh, in the past shows that the Yogi Adityanath government’s move to recover damages is extraordinary.

This is the first time notices have been sent to the identified rioters for recovery of the value of property damaged by them said by Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh revealing to The Indian Express.

People are appreciating the step taken by CM Yogi Adityanath and also are saying this is only the right way to teach these rioters a lesson, as for any kind of protest they are damaging the public property. They are praising CM Yogi Adityanath, for his bold step.

These charges are based on SC’s 2007 orders and the Allahabad HC too had ordered in 2011, for recovery of damages from protestors.

When Asked why this time the recovery was charged, on this a senior UP officer said, “The move is not communally motivated. It is based on SC and HC orders. The administration has to take a call on implementing it at some time.
