Have Your Cake & Eat It Too: Australian Desserts And Where To Have Them!

Australia is the ultimate foodie heaven- the best BBQ, sunshine (almost) all year long and iconic Aussie desserts and sweets! Let’s round up some of the best Australian desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth while in Sydney, some conventional and some slightly quirky- so you can have your cake and eat it too! We’ve undertaken the extremely hard task of sampling and compiling this list- for research purposes only.. *wink*

  • Pavlova

The elegant meringue-based Australian favourite with clouds of whipped cream and fresh berries is a summertime treat- and it’s always sunny in Sydney!

A lovely deconstructed Pavlova awaits onboard the Clearview glass boat dinner cruise in Sydney, it’s the swan song to a beautiful 8-course degustation dinner on this popular dinner cruise along the spectacular Sydney Harbour. Dig your spoon past the crisp crust into the soft and light inside with cream and fruit and get a taste of the heavens with this Chef’s special on a premium dinner cruise in Sydney

  • Lamingtons

If there’s a cake that could claim an exclusively Australian passport, it’s a good-ol’ fashioned Lamington. With two pillowy squares of sponge cakes with jam, chocolate sauce and desiccated coconut flakes.

Head on over to the Lamington specialists and THE Lamington institution in the city of Sydney- LusciousKikis! Enjoy this delish Aussie dessert with a cold filtered iced coffee on the side. Unbelievably good stuff!

  • Tim Tams

Australia’s favourite biscuit has made its way from the grocery shelves right into our hearts. And now it has become one of the world’s most loved chocolate biscuits! Rush to a nearby grocery store and grab your favourite flavour- we love the Original and the Chocolate Hazelnut.

  • Fairy Bread

Simple with the right hint of nostalgia, this Australian childhood favourite is simple, pretty and damn delicious. Can very well be made at home, but let’s try some gourmet fairy bread in Daisy’s Milk Bar. Buttery triangles of bread topped with sprinkles are a fairly simple recipe but they do it right over here!

  • Caramel Slice

The caramel slice is available in almost every Australian cafe. The buttery flaky crust with the salted caramel pairs wonderfully and the Lindt Cafe in Cockle Bay Wharf serves a delicious slice- perfect with a warm cuppa on the side.

  • ANZAC Biscuits (Icecream sandwich)

Cookies with history- make it better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream sandwich between two ANZAC biscuits. YUMMY. If you know your way around a kitchen, bake these iconic biscuits by yourself at home- it isn’t particularly hard to make!

  • Chocolate Crackle

A common feature at birthday parties and school fetes are the Australian AND UPGRADED version of a rice crispies treat. This is one of those sweets that doesn’t need culinary expertise and is outright delicious!

Mesmerise yourself and your taste buds with the taste of Australian desserts! This is a must-do/ must-taste list around Sydney to make the most of your sweet tooth. Indulge in those cravings, give in- and you most certainly will not regret it!
