3 interesting tips on how to pay less for imports from Switzerland

Switzerland is an important partner for European Union countries. The trade exchange is enormous. Is it therefore also worth taking this opportunity to join in this trade? Here are three ways to reduce customs duties.

Importing goods.

The import of goods usually entails the payment of customs duties. Those who import know that the duties consist mainly of customs duties and VAT. Occasionally there are other charges, but the framework of this article does not allow this topic to be developed. When we import goods from Switzerland, we generally have to pay the customs duties. However, can the amount of these charges be reduced?

Knowledge is power.

It is worthwhile to search the Internet for curiosities that will allow us to control our customs clearance. There are many ways to reduce the amount of customs duties. Such data will give us, for example, in customs information, we will also find it on reliable websites. To sum up, you need compressed customs knowledge...

Divide what you can into two.

The first way to reduce the amount of customs duties is to split the transport costs. This division should indicate the amount of transport costs outside the European Union and the cost of transport in the European Union. In air transport there are special tables (for example, imports from China account for 70% of transport costs incurred outside the Community border and 30% of transport costs incurred in the Community). It is worth remembering that the higher the value of goods, the more profitable this division is. It is also worth dividing when the duty itself is high. If we have road transport, it is also worth asking your forwarder about the division of transport costs.

Preferential duty rate.

The customs information tells us another way to reduce customs duties. The importer should ask his Swiss partner about the preferential origin of the goods. If such an origin exists, the Swiss company should issue a declaration on the preferential origin of the goods or a EUR1 document. If such a document is made out, the importer has the right to apply the preferential customs duty rate (mostly 0%).

Maybe someone will pay for us.

The last way to reduce customs duties is to apply the so-called DDP terms of delivery (plus the place where the goods are checked). Thanks to these delivery terms, the sender pays for the duties.

Import from Switzerland.

Trade with Switzerland brings many benefits. As shown above, it is worth knowing a few "secrets" to pay less duties. The knowledge of customs clearance is not complicated. However, it is worth getting to know a few elements, which may result in lower customs duties.
