What should you expect during your visit to an eye doctor?

Just because you think that you can see well and your eyesight seems perfect, you should skip your annual eye exams. You should not do this because eye exams are not only for people who have poor vision. Eye exams are a way to find eye problems; if you have any and not just that but also examine other problems like diabetes. Therefore, you should not delay visiting a specialist as the problem in your eye can be serious too. If it has been a really long time since you last visited your eye specialist in Karachi and gave an eye exam, then it’s high time you should book an appointment with your eye doctor to be sure that not just your eyesight is perfect but you have no other diseases as well. Here are some things you should know about what will happen while you paying your doctor a visit:

How should you choose a Doctor?

Are you confused about whether you should choose an optometrist or an ophthalmologist for your basic eye exam? If this is your normal eye checkup then you can choose either of them; whatever you feel like is the best. However, if you are visiting the doctor you have or think that you might have an eye problem like glaucoma, or any other health issues like diabetes, then you should look for an ophthalmologist since they have more advanced training about it; they will be able to treat you better.

Things you should bring to the visit

  • You should bring along your glasses or contacts; if you have any and wear them. You can ask the specialist if you can stop wearing them before you pay a visit to them.
  • A List of any health issues or allergies you have or.
  • A list of the medicines or any supplements you take
  • Any specific questions or queries you have about your eyesight.
  • You should take your medical insurance form as well. A lot of policies don’t cover routine eye care but in case there is a diagnosis like dry eyes or glaucoma, then you might need coverage.

What will happen during the visit?

Once you are done filling the formal-paperwork, you will go to the doctor’s cabin to get your eyesight checked. The eye exams are not the same; the doctor may have changed his style after a year. However, here are some things that you should know that may go on during the visit:

  • Your doctor will ask you about your general health to know about your history and to know whether you are going through some changes or not. They might also ask about your family’s health or history about any eye diseases they had.
  • The doctor now will take your eye exam in which they will check your close and distance vision, both. They will make you read letters from the chart, in order to check what the problem is. They can check your eyesight in other ways too like seeing your ability to see in 3-D, your side vision as well as color perception.
  • They will also check all parts of your eyes. They can put drops in your eyes that help the doctors in seeing better and getting a clearer view of the inside of your eyes. They can also test you for glaucoma, in order to be sure that you have no problems and are healthy.
