Anne Hathaway’s The Witches is the New Victim of the Pandemic

The “Interstellar” actress will see her latest film “The Witches” become a new addition to the list of films being moved straight to the video-on-demand format bypassing the theater release completely.

The move is not a surprise; a lot of films like “Mulan,” “The Doorman,” Tom Hardy’s “Capone,” “Da 5 Bloods,” “Onward,” “Soul, “Bloodshot,” etc., did move to Video on Demand format in the recent months as the future of the theaters is now facing a gloomy uncertainty.

“The Witches” is a cinematic adaptation of Roald Dahl’s novel of the same name in which Anne Hathaway will be seen personifying the protagonist Grand High Witch. Roald Dahl published the novel in 1983 and was an eventual recipient of three awards, namely; The New York Times Outstanding Book Award, The Federation of Children’s Book Group Awards, and The Whitbread award.

The film adaptation of the novel will be helmed by Robert Zemeckis, who had received international  recognition for directing the 1994 Tom Hanks’ starrer “Forrest Gump.”

Roald Dahl’s novel relayed the story set up in 1967. The novel was about a young orphan who arrives at the house of his grandmother, located in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis. His grandmother eventually sends him away because she was in contact with some witches, and she didn’t want him to get hurt.

However, things take a wild turn after the entry of Hathaway’s character Grand High Witch who summons all the witches around the globe, a meeting at which both the grandmother and the orphan meet once again. Grand High Witch explains in the meeting that she has a deadly plan in her mind, and she needs help from everyone.

The likes of Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci, Kristin Chenoweth, and Chris Rock will form the film’s supporting cast.

On a side note, Chris Rock’s new TV series Fargo Season 4 has also been released by FX. There is some good stuff in it, and if you are a fan of crime drama, suspense, thriller, conflict, or of Fargo in general, you certainly do not want to miss out on Season 4.

Anne Hathaway is one of the most talented actresses of our generation. She first attained recognition in the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada,” in which she starred alongside Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci.

Hathaway won her first Academy Award in 2013 for her supporting role in Les Miserables. She also has a nomination for the Best Actress category to her name courtesy of her role in the film Rachel Getting Married.

She also has a resume that boasts about some of the high-quality films she has done in the past, such as Brokeback Mountain, Love and Other Drugs, Havoc, and massively underrated 2019 film Serenity in which she acted alongside True Detective star Mathew McConaughey.

However, she is best remembered in pop culture for her roles in two big blockbusters, directed by Christopher Nolan. In the 2012 film, The Dark Knight Rises, she portrayed the role of Selina Kyle, aka The Catwoman, and left quite a mark with it. In the 2014 science-fiction epic, she portrayed the role of Dr. Brand, who is sent to space alongside Mathew McConaughey’s Cooper in an expedition to find life elsewhere in the universe.

The Witches was all set to release on October the 22nd, but it will now be made available on Video-On-Demand format.
