A gaming PC, also known as a gaming computer, brings a smoother experience to any video game experience. Getting to build your own gaming pc takes the experience to a whole new level, giving you the freedom to play more games that are customized to your needs from the features, design, graphics, and performance.

Although the thought of building a gaming PC may sound intimidating, it is actually a lot easier than most people may think. All you need as a hardware enthusiast is the right components for your case, a comprehensive instruction guide that is easy to follow, and you can assemble and build a PC that satisfies your personal preferences.

5 Reasons to Build Your Own Gaming PC

  • High-quality parts- Some store-bought brands do not always use high-quality components as they are constantly looking for low bids that maximize their profits. When you build your computer from scratch, you can choose to use only the top-of-the-line components that meet your customization needs to build it. You also have full control over the components as per your gaming preferences that you can updater from time to time.
  • Eliminate bloatware- Computer manufacturers tend to install unnecessary software on the system that may include third-party applications as their extra revenue generation streams. The add-ons take unnecessary space on the hard drive making the computer run slow. Building your computer means that you only install the applications that you find necessary for its optimum performance.
  • Better warranties- Most pre-built computers come with a single one-year warranty that covers the entire computer. Should any of its parts break down, then you will be required to take the entire PC for repair. This is not the case when you buy each component individually to build your PC as most of the components have warranties lasting as long as five years, and each can be sent individually for repair works should they break down.
  • Saves you tech support time- The process of waiting in line for tech support in retail stores to fix your PC issues can be frustrating. When you build your own machines, then you know where every part goes and what they do, basically all the inner workings of the PC. so, in case of a breakdown, with a quick Google search, you become your own tech support and fix the machine. The research process will also broaden your knowledge of computer operations and processes, sharpening your problem-solving skills.
  • Building your gaming PC is fun- The process of building a computer is not very difficult and although one may encounter some hiccups, these challenges make the process interesting. The step-by-step guide is quite easy to follow with concentration, to build yourself that PC for both work and leisure. Should you get stuck along the way, there are many online forums of people that share this common interest and expert blogs that can guide you through the process. You will have fun building it and become part of an elite community of PC builders too.

What Components Do You Require to Build a Gaming PC?

Graphics card (GPU)

This is the most important yet still the most important component in assembling a gaming PC. Comprising of various components like VRAM and clock speed, the GPU helps perform rapid calculations, then uses that information to render the images/graphics that you see at your set resolution.

Central Processing Unit (CPU)

The CPU is the computer’s brain, a crucial component that executes the in-game instructions of the PC. Its most important measures are the clock speed, core counts, and threads and they determine its performance. Compare these between the different processors available in the market, going for the most up to date one as your budget may allow.

Motherboard (MOBO)

The emphasis when buying MOBO is on buying from reputable manufacturers and that which is compatible with your processor. The MOBO should be reliable, with the overclocking abilities and other premium features being what differentiates the high-end boards from the low-end ones. The gaming PC motherboards come in different sizes: ITX, MATX, ATX, with ITX as the smallest and most expensive, and ATX the biggest and most budget.

Memory (RAM)

Memory, also known as random access memory (RAM) is the computer's short-term memory, where the actively used data is stored. This temporary memory storage is fast and easy to access and having enough of it improves your CPU's performance. The dual-channel memory gives you a back-up plan should one memory stick fail for that optimum gaming experience.

Storage (HDD/SSD)

Applications, files, and games would initially be stored in the HDDs before the SSD (solid-state drive) technology with microchips got introduced. While you can still use HDDs at a lower cost, their quality is not as good as that of SSD which is smaller, more durable, with faster load time. A combination of the two is ideal for the storage of different games with different load times should your budget allow.

Power supply unit (PSU)

You will need a reliable PSU from a reputable manufacturer to provide power to your PC. An efficient PSU will ideally have an 80+ efficient rating, and although a higher rating will cost you more, it also means efficient utilization of the power it creates with less heat exhaustion.

PC case

All of the above components will need a well-protected place to keep them in-the PC case. You will need to consider the build quality, design, coolers and radiators, and compatibility in terms of sizing, aesthetics, and expansion possibilities. The mid-tower is the most preferred option for new builders, and the compact PC build for the extreme build.
