How to Be Funny At Work: 10 Tips to Improve Your Sense of Humor

Being funny is a good thing. It not only makes you happy but leaves a good impression on others as well. If you have a good sense of humor, trust me, everyone will enjoy your company.

If I talk specifically from an evolutionary biological perspective, a sense of humor is used by men to attract the opposite sex. But I think this is not true. Anyone can use a sense of humor anytime, anywhere. It is to make your personality more pleasant and make your life more enjoyable.

If you are a shy or introverted person and deprived of a good sense of humor, nothing is serious. It's all right! Every individual is different, and everyone has their personality, but to become a pleased person, try to develop a good sense of humor. This article gives you a few tips to improve your sense of humor and make you happy. Let's check them out:

1.     Watch Comedies

Watching more comedy shows is the best way to improve your sense of humor. It means watch more comedy shows and comedy-dramas. There is a plethora of comedy shows not only on TV, but you can also browse online. To learn faster, you can start with comedy shows that are in your native language.

2.     Watch Standup Comedies

Choose a stand-up comedian that you admire and start listening to them. Listen to their podcasts. Some of the world's most famous stand-up comedians are Kevin hart, George Carlin, Robbin Willaims, and many others.

If you have no idea which comedy show or which stand up comedian to choose, look for something of your taste.  Remember, not everything is funny as everyone has a different taste and way of looking at things.

3.     Learn Simple Jokes

Also, learn easy yet straightforward jokes. Joke books are available at all book stores.  The internet is also full of tricks and has funny pictures, puns, humor, and stand up. You will get too much stuff to laugh on.

Try these jokes with your friends, family, or even at your workplace. But crack them wherever they fit, to leave a remarkable impression. Do not tell jokes to the audience who have already heard them. They will not find it funny.

4.     Learn From People with a Sense of Humor

I believe everyone has a family member or a friend/colleague who has a good sense of humor. What you should do is spend time with your funny fellows. You will learn a lot from them. Observe how they are cracking jokes and making people laugh. You can learn a lot from them.

According to Andrew Schultz, the best way to improve your sense of humor is to be around other comedians. Local comedy clubs have many comedians from whom you can learn.

5.     Be Funny, Not Mean

It means that while trying to be funny, do not hurt the emotions of others. If you made fun of others for the things that they cannot change or beyond their control, it would make you mean instead of funny. People might laugh at your jokes, remember you might hurt the target person.  Of course, one you do not want to do this.

Cracking jokes does not mean to be selfish and ignore others. It is all about making others laugh and make them happier.

6.     Observe Your Audience

For a successful comedian, it is essential to know your audience. It is also a pivotal point to make them laugh.

While cracking jokes, always make eye contact with your audience to see if they like it or not. If you see people laughing loud, you are doing well. Continue!

While if your audience is quiet and seems to be offended, switch the topic to make them more engaged.

7.     Don't Rely On One Kind of Humor Only

A good comedian is the one who has a stock of jokes and knows when and where to use them. You always should have a backup of different perspectives. If you see that one kind of comedy is not helping you get a name, switch to another type. Also, see if your audience is not enjoying, also shift.

8.     Do Not Rely On Silly Humor

Although silly humor is a good start for comedy but remembers it doesn't last for long. If continued, it would also give an immature look to you.  Avoid sarcasm and stale jokes and try to be witty while cracking jokes.

9.     Laugh More

While making others laugh, never forget to laugh too. If your body is giving out unhappy vibes, nobody will laugh at your jokes. Show that you are also enjoying jokes and making comedy.

For a greater sense of humor, laugh more, and enjoy your jokes.

10.    Be patient

Remember, nothing happens overnight.  If you want to excel in any niche, remember to be patient, as it is the key to success.  If you do not get appreciated once or no matter how many times, stay firm and continue with what you are doing.

To become a successful, funny person, if your jokes are not appreciated initially, do not quit unless you become a role model for others.

I can give you one good example of success and patience. In the carpet cleaning industry, the workers, no doubt, work hard to satisfy their clients. But they face a lot of criticism. The management guides and trains them to remain consistent.

Final thoughts

If you are a funny person, everyone will like your company.  Being funny is fun and lets you enjoy yourself more.  If you have a good sense of humor, it is a good thing, but if you are not, do not worry, you can work on it. Develop your sense of humor with the above tips and see the wonders.
