Common Musculoskeletal Health Concerns You Should Know About

In an age where most people are working and spending their leisure time sedentary and sitting in front of a computer, it is no wonder that more and more individuals are experiencing musculoskeletal health concerns.

Understanding these musculoskeletal health issues will help you identify the early symptoms of them and direct you to seek an earlier medical diagnosis and receive care if necessary. In this blog, we’ll detail which common musculoskeletal health concerns you need to look out for.

Tendonitis

Tendonitis refers to the irritation or inflammation of tendons within the body - that is, the thick fibrous cords which attach our muscles to our bones. The most common symptoms of tendonitis include pain and tenderness around a joint. Tendonitis can occur in all tendons in the body - however, is most common in tendons that are frequently used such as the wrists, elbows, shoulders, heels and knees.

Tension neck syndrome

Due to the positioning of screens in our everyday lives, many individuals now suffer from poor neck posture - which in some serious cases, may also result in tension neck syndrome. Tension neck syndrome refers to pain, tenderness and stiffness experienced in the neck, which may also consequently cause headaches and fatigue. Tension neck syndrome may be treated with neck stretches such as the forward and back tilt as directed by health professionals.

Thoracic outlet compression

Thoracic outlet compression is a health disorder which occurs when the blood vessels or nerves located between the collarbone and the first rib are compressed. This compression may cause symptoms such as pain in the shoulders and neck, as well as numbness in the fingers. This condition may be caused by repetitive injury from jobs or sports, or physical trauma from accidents.

The above health disorders are common musculoskeletal issues experienced by individuals in today’s sedentary climate. Be sure to contact a health professional for a diagnosis if you believe you are suffering from such conditions.
