What are cryptocurrencies and how do they work?(Crypto Legacy)

Surely you have heard about cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, bitcoin and perhaps also other virtual currencies such as, for example, Ethereum, to name some of the most popular. But do you really know what a cryptocurrency is, what it is for, and why are they so controversial?

In this post we explain it.

What are cryptocurrencies?

A cryptocurrency is a virtual currency with which financial transactions can be carried out. That is, it serves as a payment method for goods and services, although it is also possible to operate with cryptocurrencies for speculative purposes to obtain a profit, taking advantage of increases or decreases in its market price.

Blockchain technology

Cryptocurrencies work through the use of blockchain technology or blockchains. It is a decentralized technology with which transactions are managed and recorded digitally. That is, cryptocurrencies

exist as a digital property record, which is stored in blockchains or blockchains. When the cryptocurrency holder wants to send a certain number of units to another person, he transfers them to

the recipient's virtual wallet. The operation is completed after it has been verified and added to the blockchain. Basically, this means that each transaction is a block, linked to a code that acts as a record. Currently, there are more than 2,000 cryptocurrencies that use blockchain technology.

The role of miners

The miners are members of the blockchain platform and they are the ones who confirm transactions independently, using high-speed devices, which reduce the confirmation time to between 10 and 20 minutes. In return, they charge a commission, usually in cryptocurrencies.
