Cool Roof Coating - Benefits, Products, and Applications

Cool roof coatings are white or special reflective pigments that reflect sunlight. They are much like the thick paint that can protect a ceiling surface from ultra-violet (UV) light and chemical damage, and offer some water conservation and restorative features. Cool roof coatings provide higher solar reflectivity and higher thermal emissions than standard-designed roofing coats. Cool roof paint retains the freshness of the roof and the feeling of heat under the roof is minimal. This technique is now being used in many countries and homes because its many benefits are being seen. Standard or dark roofs can reach temperatures of 150°F or more in the summer sun. Under similar conditions, a cold-coated roof can stay cooler by over 50°F and save energy and money. Highly reflective and anti-fungal by nature, the coating is easy to clean and offers excellent value for money. It is easy to apply by means of brushes or rollers and provides excellent water resistance and superior crack bridging.
Benefits of cold roof coating
• Minimum surface preparation required
• Available as ready to use
• High Solar Reflection Index (SRI) indicates a high degree of cooling effect
• Crack-bridging
• High resistance to chloride penetration
• Algae and fungus resistant
• Highly flexible and vapor permeable
• Simple and fast application
• Excellent adhesion to concrete, ultraviolet rays, and weather-resistant
• Reduces the surface temperature of roofs by up to 50% compared to darker cladding
• Low energy cost
• Environment friendly
Cool Roof Coating Products
Acrylic-Based Cool Coat - Contains cross-linking polymers, special glass microfibers, pigments, and advanced antifungal additives that provide long-lasting tough waterproofing membranes. The membrane's high solar reflectivity index acts as a heat reflective surface and minimizes heat penetration while keeping the interior of the building cool.
Fiber-filled Liquid Cool Coats - This ready-to-use waterproofing, white products for outdoor applications made of synthetic resins in water dispersion, with high solar reflectivity and a thermal index (SRI) of 105, and when dry have a constant, Flexible waterproofing membrane.

Polymer Cool Coats - These are water-based white-colored emulsions containing polymers and specially designed hollow "microspheres" less than 100 µm in diameter with non-conductive properties. This microsphere collectively acts as a thermal insulation blanket that allows the structure to effectively reflect solar radiation back into the atmosphere.
PUD Hybrid Cool Coat – These are water-based, high solid, PUD hybrid coats that contain both reflection and nano insulation pigments for best-in-class heat protection. These are powered by micro-fibers for excellent waterproofing and crack resistance.
Single-ply cool coats – These are prefabricated sheets that are rolled onto the roof and attached to mechanical fasteners, which are coated with chemical adhesives
Modified Bitumen Cool Coats - They have one or more layers of plastic or rubber material covered with reinforcing fabrics, and exposed with mineral granules or a smooth finish. High Albedo Paint - This cool roof paint can be used on all types of roofs. The main purpose of this paint is to keep the roof temperature low as this paint reflects the heat coming from the sun.
Application Method of Cool Roof Coating
Preparation of the substrate - all dust, loose and friable materials, and tile glaze or varnish must be completely removed by mechanical means. Achieving a sound, gripping substrate requires inspecting, cleaning, and mechanically grounding existing coatings/membranes.
Repair and Reinforce - Patch and repair cracks, blisters, and other problem areas using roof patches following label directions. Previous coatings may have opened blisters but these areas should be allowed to dry completely. Blisters in the ply of the roof should be left alone unless there is a possibility of breakage.
Apply Coating - Apply a coating after the roof is dry and the sealant has set. You'll need a heavy-duty frame, a 1-1/4-inch roller to dip into a -inch paint roller or pail, and a foot extension pole to spread the coating on the ceiling. Use a base coat and emulsion roller. Map out your roof and fill each bucket in that area.
Final check - see product description for recommended coverage Use a stiff paintbrush to apply Crack & Joint Sealant. The topcoat should always be applied in a very thick coat. Two thin coats or one heavy coat can also be used to achieve the desired result.
Application area of cool roof coating

• Roof Slab (Flat & Sloped)
• Asbestos and lime terraces
• PVC water tanks
• Syntax tank
• Oil storage tank
• Exterior walls and balconies
• Old or new sheets and RCC roofing
• Factory
• Commercial and residential buildings
