Where to Study

In order to become an acupuncture practitioner in Australia, individuals will need to complete a relevant bachelor degree.

There are a few universities in Australia which offer such or similar courses and are recognised by the Australian Natural Therapists Association (ANTA), setting individuals on the path to becoming an acupuncturist.

These universities include:

  • Endeavour College of Natural Health (Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth)
  • Southern Cross University

  • Perth Academy of Natural Therapies

Qualifications You’ll Need

After completing a degree in one of the above universities or academies, individuals will need to apply for registration with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA). It is only after registering that individuals can practise acupuncture and other forms of TCM in Australia.

Individuals must also undertake mandatory continued professional development (CPD) courses and training annually to maintain their registration with the CMBA. Individuals can start their own clinic, or practise acupuncture as part of an existing functional medicine or related health clinic after registering with the CMBA.
