Easy Advice for Re-grouting the Tile in Your Shower

Tile Re-grouting is frequently required for shower tiles that are discolored, filthy, or otherwise mold-infested. Even with the use of strong industrial cleaning products, shower tiles can be difficult to clean. If you find yourself in this situation, it may be time to consider shower tile re-grouting. Here are the quick and easy actions you'll need to take to be successful:

Step 1

Before you do anything to your tile floor, make a thorough inspection. Because tile re-grouting the shower tiles is likely to prevent further damage, you should begin by analyzing the tile to determine which issues are already present. This will give you a better idea of the cost of the restoration and the products you'll need.

Step 2

Between shower tiles, remove any faulty caulk and grout. Using a razor scraper, remove all of the unwanted grout. If there is any mold or mildew on the facade, remove it first with a mold or mildew removal solution or bleach thinned with water. Scrape away the old grout and caulk with care so that you can properly prepare the surface. At the very least, the spacing between tiles should be 1/8 inch deep. Because totally fresh tile grout will never cling to the older grout, don't put it in a shallow gap.

Wash the tile with a slightly damp washcloth shortly after completion to remove any leftover materials. Isopropyl alcohol can surely help to scratch off old tile grout if it proves stubborn. Using a grout saw or a dependable chisel to remove hardened tile grout can also make this job easier.

If you find any damaged bathroom tiles, remove them and replace them before starting the tile re-grouting. Work on a dry floor to get the best results from this task. Working on moist surfaces may increase the likelihood of mold or mildew spreading throughout your environment.

Step 3

Fill up the gaps between the tiles with grout. Prior to using the tile grout, choose a color that complements the bathroom tiles. Tile Re-grouting can be obtained in either dry or pre-mixed form; simply follow the manufacturer's instructions for mixing and application. Due to the small spaces that separate the tiles, tile grout that does not contain sand is a smart choice for this sort of application.

While practically any type of tile grout will work, a latex-based formula is less likely to crack and is often water and moisture resistant. Using a grout float, spread the tile grout around at an angle. Fill the holes tightly until they are completely filled, then remove any extra grout. Allow for around 10 minutes for the fresh grout to set before wiping the tiled outside clean with a moist sponge. Allow three to four days for the grout to harden before resuming extensive use of the room.
