Technology at the Forefront in Changing Times

The expectation of things getting back to normal cannot be comprehended. The times have changed, the world has moved on and not accepting that fact has to be considered as the reluctance to change. This is the new normal and the industries and organizations have to realize it and have to adapt to the change as soon as possible to be relevant in the industry.  The restrictions put on by the pandemic have moved everyone out of their comfort zone and out of their routine. This has closed some old doors and opened some new ones of opportunities. There are new ways of working, schooling, socializing, etc. which have come to replace the existing practices. There might be vaccines soon enough for the things to go back to the previous state but the lessons learned through this pandemic will rewrite the existing acceptable ways of carrying out things and will be replaced with the new normal. Technology will be at the forefront of this shift in the paradigm.

Organizations have got new approaches to looking at fine-tuning their processes, optimizing their resources and increasing efficiency. The ways of extravagant growth and splurge for advancements are being looked to be replaced with new ways, without compromising growth and improvements. Embracing technological advancements and adapting to them is the way forward in meeting with the requirement of the challenges up ahead. Additive manufacturing has been available as a technological solution for a lot of industries but the reluctance to change has made the penetration of this technology less than what is potentially realizable. Though there are a lot of organizations and industries using Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software and other forms of designing & manufacturing software, the reach of these is limited compared to what is possible.

Being Relevant with the help of software

The new normal is going to push out those who haven’t adapted to the change. The help of technology in designing, manufacturing, warehousing, delivering, after service, etc. makes a huge difference in the performance of all aspects and with the change in the world at present, it is going to have a much bigger impact. We are already seeing a great shift in the wealth allocation all over the world and some are largely due to the ability of the organization to adapt to the change at a neck-breaking speed. Additive manufacturing is a way of staying relevant in the changing challenging atmosphere. The ability to design and roll out the product through additive manufacturing, may it be for prototype or customized production or in large scale production processes, gives the edge to the manufacturer. One of the example is in the production of a Formula One racing car. The changing tracks and the tough competition have the team in a constant development mode for their car throughout the racing calendar year. The design of new parts through the designing software, which helps in understanding the air flows, and production of the prototype through additive manufacturing helps the team to be relevant in those time-critical atmospheres. The Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) also is being utilized by racing teams to be on top of their development game in bringing new relevant parts, from the designing stage through production to delivery.

The designing support of the software for different industries makes it possible for them to be in a stage of development of product or services, even with these tough times and that too without ignoring the stakeholders involved. A proper integration of these technological elements into the product life cycle or the organizational working structure enables the smooth operational continuity which is a significant factor. Adapting to change has always been the challenge, and the lack of insight in the preparedness for change for the future has cost a lot of industries. There are technological tools like Additive Manufacturing, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), SImcenter, Siemens NX, Solid Edge, etc. to get the organization ready for the change and prepare for the future, but without the understanding and effective utilization of technologies like these, there is no way of not falling off the wagon.

Future-Proofing your Organization

All organizations and industries are in a constant state of development for future-proofing their organization against the developments. Though some are reluctant to change and the attitude to not take a risk in replacing or changing the existing practice ‘if it’s not broken’, will have them playing catch up to the leaders in their fields. An aggressive approach to welcoming new technologies and improving internal and external operational efficiency through taking calculated higher risks have rewarded those who had the aptitude for the same. Additive manufacturing, PLM, Simcenter, Teamcenter, Siemens NX, etc. has provided their users with a relative edge to their competitors in the market due to their ability to understand and react to the changes with the help of the stated technologies.

The pandemic has solidified the phrase ‘change is the only constant’. The understanding of having constant challenges and unprecedented circumstances at any given moment is a great place to start with and improve upon. Future-proofing for the organization is much more realistic need and investing strategically in the right technologies has always been the right choice but more so now in light of what the world is going through. If history has taught us anything, then it is to learn from our mistakes as a society, as a person, as an industry, as a business, etc. to avoid falling into the same mistakes and to ameliorate for the future.
