Phenolic resins, often known as phenol or simply resins, are chemical compounds made composed of a phenol and a hydrogen-containing element. This type of chemical linking is known as a phenol bond, and it can be single, double, or triple. The phenol in phenolic resin works as a dye, attracting water and making it soluble, allowing it to be absorbed through the skin. Cosmetics, medicines, paints, varnishes, and industrial coatings all employ these phenolic resin resins.

The permeability of phenolic resins to both hot and cold temperatures is great. They are particularly appropriate for use in abrasive machines since they can easily penetrate various types of nonporous materials. Friction linings, tumbling balls, and even friction enhancers in friction powered chucks all employ them. High-temperature coatings of stainless steel and aluminum alloys are two more areas where phenolic resins shine.

Phenolic resins are used in a variety of cosmetic goods, including nail paint, lip gloss, face cleansers, and whitening strips, to name a few. The majority of cosmetics made with these phenolic resins contain minimal quantities of hazardous components and may thus be used safely. However, certain high-quality phenolic resins might become hazardous if exposed to specific substances on a regular basis.
