Different grain whiskeys to enjoy for different tastes

Grain whisky is a big umbrella term for many varieties that fall under this category. Generally speaking, Grain whiskies are whiskies made from grains other than malted barley like rye, corn, or wheat. Most whiskies made in America or Canada are of this type.

Grain Whiskies often tend to be sidelined by so-called whisky enthusiasts as they don’t consider it exceedingly tasty or rich. But that’s a big fat lie! These whiskies can be very characteristic and full of flavor. In fact, they should be appreciated more due to their affordability and range.

Even in itself, Grain whisky has some diversity caused due to varying methods of production or different components. Depending on what your taste buds dictate, you can choose to drink any of these, or better yet, all as long as you’re giving grains a chance!

Single Grain Whisky

Single grain whisky is often confusingly believed to contain only one grain. Instead the “single” in the name is an indication of a single distillery being used to produce the concoction. So these whiskies are made from one distillery and contain any grains except for malted barley because that would make it single malt.

The variation of even a grain can result in a significant distinction in taste even in the same whisky category. If you’re a newcomer to the whisky world, these whiskies are the perfect beginners as they have sweet flavors generally complemented with cereal-ly notes and caramel tones so they slide smoothly through the throat and are best if you don’t enjoy overly smoky or intense flavors on your tongue.

Grain Scotch Whisky

Grain scotch whisky is another stellar drink to enjoy on its own or in cocktails. This scotch is made in column stills in a distillery, is light-bodied, and can tend to have tasting notes on the sweeter spectrum. This is a common feature found across grain whiskeys of all kinds.

The real MVPs of Scotch know that it is its most authentic self on its own, and if you absolutely have to lighten the taste a little, you must only add some water to it. Precisely 20 percent. And even then, it is almost honorable to take the first sip neat before diluting it with water. That being said, it’s not we’re some rigid randy’s who won’t let you enjoy this concoction in a cocktail. You must follow the heart and do as you please!

Blended Grain Whisky

If you were to find the best of both worlds in the whisky universe, Blended grain whisky is where your search would end. Blended whiskies are the most widely consumed grain whiskies all across the world owing to their rich flavor palate and unique taste.

These are generally made by mixing single grain and single malt whiskies or simply mixing different grain whiskies from different distilleries. These although have higher alcohol by volume than the regular single malts, yet these taste lighter and smoother than them. If you’re the kind of person who thinks single malt can be a bit much, we would highly recommend blended grain to acquire your tastebuds to luxury!

In a nutshell, whisky is candidly considered the king of liquors and if you want to try something different than your usual single malts, you should, by all means, come on over to the grainy side and try grain whiskies whether they are single grain whisky, grain scotch whisky, or Blended grain whisky.
