Bike Diaries: Short Trips from Kolkata

Someone once said, "The journey matters more than the destination," and we can't help but agree. The sight of birds gliding across the sky, the wind blowing through your hair, and the moment itself saying, "I'm enough!" And our biker gang would assert that this excitement becomes tenfold when you are riding on a bike. And the best part? You could even get your desired bike on rent in Kolkata.

The feeling of being one with nature, discovering solace in being an adventurer, and living the time of your life. Who knew that such a 'free as a bird' moment when you're on a bike could be something to miss, something to grow fond of. For everyone who would like to bear witness to this immaculate feeling, here are 5 one day bike trips. So, let's put a break on your stressful life and kick-start a journey that you'll remember for years to come-

Kolkata to Mukutmanipur

Can we interest you in a serene journey that will replenish your soul? That’s how you can describe a nature scape to Mukutmanipur. A picturesque dam placed at the confluence of two rivers, Kangsabati and Kumari, gives you an opportunity for a quick break.

Mukutmanipur is around a two-hour trail run from Kolkata. The highway between Dankuni and Barrackpore is well-maintained and has a decent number of dhabas and cafes. This road journey can be made in a few different ways, with the SH 2 being the fastest at 208 kilometers and the NH 6 being somewhat lengthier at 230 kilometers. Plus, you are in luck because the best months to visit would be between October to March.

Kolkata to Jamshedpur

The Steel City or Tatanagar or just Tata, multiple identities but the same old essence. Jamshedpur, a land covered with lush greenery and filled with warm-hearted people. A journey to its well-planned out perpendicular roads, a sight of its hills surrounded by two rivers, and the scent of its monsoon air, everything meddles together for a heavenly voyage. Known for being the cleanest city that knows nothing about pollution, a bike trip to Jamshedpur would be like a breather.

Pass through the Dalmia Hills, let the clouds chase you, and forget about all your worries for the time being. There are also a handful of tourist spots, including Jubilee Park, some houses of worship, and sports fields and stadiums, that were built for the sake of entertainment and relaxation. Jamshedpur is 4 hours and 38 minutes away via the NH6. The region is 283.1 kilometers from Kolkata, and there are plenty of fantastic dhabas along the way to satisfy your hunger. Upon reaching, you can even get a taste of the British era as you pay a visit to some of the old-school clubs.

Kolkata to Raichak

Nestled amidst the Hoogly river, not only is Raichak a great place to enjoy an earthen charm, but it also happens to be an ideal spot for an urban retreat. Getting a bike on hire in Kolkata to reach Raichak isn’t tricky at all. Plus, if you need a sudden getaway from all your hectic life schedules, this is the perfect place to visit. Why? The distance from Kolkata to Raichak is just 53 km, and you can complete the trip within an hour and a half. So, who is up for a Friday night plan for drinks, games, and a bike trip to Raichak?

If you are a lone wolf, it’ll be a peaceful drive with just you and your thoughts. If you connect with the idea of “the more, the merrier,” then this trip may also be done with your best buddies. No matter what you prefer, Raichak lets you enjoy anything and everything. From the tranquil vibes on the Ganges to the town's delicacies, it’s a trip worth witnessing.

Kolkata to Bishnupur

An amalgamation of nature and heritage, Bishnupur or The Land of Terracotta has much more to offer than what meets the eye. It was during the 17th and 18th centuries that the town prospered and became a center for pottery and weaving. Rich in its traditional architectural works and handicrafts, Bishnupur reigned supreme under the Malla Kings. And since the Malla kings were Vaishnavite, which is considered Lord Vishnu as their deity, it's also apparent from where Bishnupur derived its name.

When you visit Bishnupur, you will be shocked to witness an affordable range of accommodation spaces and tourist lodges. This place is easy on your pocket and serves lots of attractions like Rasmancha, Shyamrai Temple, Jorebangla Temple, Madan Mohan Temple, Dalmadal Kamon Canon, Gate of Old Fort, Bishnupur Museum, etc. There are many tiny cafes near the temples. Restaurants selling Bengali cuisine and pure ghee desserts and north Indian, south Indian, and Chinese cuisine are plentiful. In just 4 hours 35 minutes, you will be in a world of wonder.

Kolkata to Mandarmani

A relaxing atmosphere with red crabs crawling and superimposed against the golden beaches, Mandarmani is nothing short of a paradise. It is situated in West Bengal's East Midnapore district and is one of its rapidly growing tourist hotspots. Locals call the settlement Mandarboni, and it will surely provide a comfortable environment for your visit.

The Mandarmani beach is a great place to watch the sunset or sunrise and be in awe of its beauty. It also offers water sports like surfing, parasailing, paddleboat rides, ATV bikes, and bungee trampoline. During the Digha-Mandarmani carnival in January, a variety of water and beach activities are conducted. Several Bengali bands perform on a makeshift stage created on the beach as part of the event. With a distance of 170 km covered in 4-5 hours, Mandarmani is a must-visit for all beach lovers. The best time to visit is in January, February, November, and December.

Are You Ready?

Did you get the vibe? Get your preferred bike on rent in Kolkata and enjoy the time of your life. For anyone who thinks road trips aren’t fun, we beg to differ. It’s more fun than any Bollywood movie would portray and indeed a memory that you’ll cherish forever. So, why delay any further when you know Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara?
