The admission procedure for USMLE

It is the desire of all Medical Graduate, regardless of whether they are coming from the U.S., Canada, or International Medical Graduates (IMGs) from various parts of the world to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) to be eligible to be selected for be a part of the Residency Program and practice medicine in the U.S.A.

The first step before taking the USMLE is to gather details about admission details including eligibility requirements, admission requirements, and other details from USMLE as well as the Educational Commission of International Medical Graduates(ECFMG)'s websites.

After you've gathered data from various organizations such as USMLE and ECFMG The next step is to search for pertinent study materials, such as books and coaching institutes that offer exceptional coaching and support via online, classroom as well as at-home study. Also, you must discover which institutions offer residency programs by your credentials and if there is a chance of obtaining an externship program and letters of recommendation.

It's not as simple to join the Residency Program particularly for those with IMGs because there is a limited number of seats for IMGs. You must pass several hurdles, such as passing Step 1 and Stage 2 clinical Knowledge (CK) along with step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) to be eligible for the Residency Match and finally step 3 to obtain the license to practice medicine in the U.S.A.

On average, 37000 applicants take part in the examination annually for around 25000 residency positions. Of around 8000 of them are IMGs. Around 75% of seats available are occupied by US Seniors, with a smaller part by U.S. resident IMGs. From the approximately 8000 IMGs who are taking the test and a mere 40-42 percent of them will be chosen for the Residency.

There is intense competition for the seats available and only the top candidates and those with excellent communication, clinical, and management skills are accepted into USMLE Residency Program. USMLE Residency Program.

The subjects covered in the exam:

The process to obtain a medical license is through the successful completion of a U.S. residency training program. A majority of residency programs select applicants using their national resident matching system (NRMP) which is also known by the name of "Match." To be eligible to take part with the Match, foreign medical graduates or IMGs are required to obtain certification through the education commission of foreign graduates (ECFMG) and is then followed by the fulfillment of all examination requirements. Medical licensure in the U.S. starts with preparing for the step 1 second clinical understanding (CK) as well as the step 2 practical skills (CS) exams. They can be passed in between 3 and 9 months. But, the clinical skills are completed within 2 to 3 months.

The first course is comprised of the following topics that include anatomy and behavioral sciences, biochemistry, immunology, medical genetics, microbiology pathology, pharmacology, and biology. These subjects are taught in the initial two years of study at medical school called basic science subjects. In the clinical sciences, the following subjects are addressed. The subjects covered are internal medicine, obstetrics, the gynecology field, pediatrics as well as ethics and psychiatry, and surgery. These are the subjects that you study during the third and fourth years of medical school education.

Clinical skill is a live test with standardized patients designed to assess a candidate's communication skills in English and clinical proficiency. Step 3 tests patients' management skills to the standard of a freshman resident. To obtain ECFMG accreditation, you will need your medical diploma, the medical school transcript, step 1 step 2 CK, and step 2 scorecards. To participate in the residency match, you must complete the following steps: ECFMG certification, sign up for the nationwide residency matching programs (NRMP) and apply through the online residency application service (ERAS).

It is recommended, especially for IMG candidates, rather than sending out random ERAS applications, to find the appropriate residency programs that match your credentials and are IMG friendly and have a chance of receiving more residency interviews. Send the ERAS application to register. This is not just a way to save money, but also a lot of time, but also avoids mistakes and raises the likelihood of being granted a Residence.
