Blocked Sewer Sydney

Blocked sewer lines are very problematic. Sewer is a delicate system and the blockages can easily damage the entire sewage system.

Grease build-up in kitchen sink pipes is a leading cause of sewer line blockages. When fat, oil and grease (FOG) are poured down the drain, they settle out at the bottom of the pipe and form a layer of scum called a "fatberg." The buildup gradually gets larger as it travels along the pipe until it reaches a point where it completely blocks the flow of wastewater.

Wet wipes should never be flushed down the drain as they can create a blockage. These problems can cause overflows and backups that can damage property and create a health hazard.

Install strainer baskets in all drain going to your home's sinks, tubs and toilets. These mesh strainers catch lint and other small items before they can clog your pipes. They are inexpensive and easy to install.

Another important thing you need to do is schedule regular plumbing maintenance. If you've never had your pipes looked at by a professional plumber, it might be a good idea for you to do so now. Your local plumber will be able to tell you whether or not your drains are being blocked by something serious and whether or not they need to be cleaned out right away.

Sewer backups are particularly common during wet weather or immediately after a major storm event has passed through an area. Heavy rainwater can quickly overwhelm sewer systems and cause backups in homes that sit above them. This can also happen because the water in the ground around a sewer line can seep into the neglected pipe.
