How Technology Benefits Your Transport and Logistics Experience?

The question of ‘does’ when it comes to technology is out of question in most fields of work. The more sane version of the question boils down to a ‘how’ – how does technology affect logistics? We have gone through a well-researched journey to bring the answers to you and we share them now.

The masses of today thrive on data and information – and technology gives you the privilege of access.

Faster communication in logistics management

Imagine that you run four warehouses that deal with the same kind of items and transport them between each other and to and from customers and vendors. Keeping a synchronized inventory is the biggest challenge in such a scenario. Thanks to cloud data storage and enterprise resource planning solutions, these problems are almost solved. Access to the cloud has allowed businesses to manage their logistics data in a more organized manner and to bring better quality of service to their customers.

Automated hardware in transport

Robots are not going to take up weapons and take control of planet Earth. Instead they have helped manufacturing and logistics giants with streamlined assembly lines, drone systems to transport small goods, and to keep a managed flow of hardware inside the system meanwhile tracking them on the software level as well. Automated hardware has also entered the FMCG delivery market and Taxi truck services as well. Recently, Alphabet backed startup Wing has run pilot programs to deliver food in Australia.

Location tracking

Location tracking has saved the transport and logistics business millions and billions of dollars. Google maps is a billion dollar industry in itself and companies from a small enterprise to enormous setup use services to track their delivery trucks. On a consumer-level, location tracking has allowed people to track their delivery status, find out where their commute is, and to send distress signals if required. Location tracking is complemented by a user friendly interface that again highlights the benefits of technology in transport and logistics.

Artificial Intelligence and ML

Intent analysis and assigning computers to automate the work of humans save cost and time of companies and also gives the customers a better user experience. Machine learning has made way for smarter ways to accelerate the supply chain as well. We recently came across a product based on AI/ML that predicts (based on real time data) the chances of a delivery van/truck facing a punctured tyre. Practical data worked out through smart algorithms allows logistics companies and users to make smarter decisions.

Social Media

Social media is a strong platform for companies to reach out to their customers and for the latter to post queries and complaints if any. Automated chatbots are also a great channel for the same but social media allows communities to thrive around a certain subject. Logistics and transport thrive on feedback and good quality of service. Speed is an obvious factor as well. To give customers a positive experience, many transport and logistics companies rely on social media for useful feedback.

Conclusion

Technology ‘drives’ transport and logistics to extents that was never predicted before. We get the privilege of living in a global village thanks to fast deliver services and real time data on our fingertips – and its only going to get better from here.
