How To Prepare Kona Coffee By Keeping It Fresh

Kona coffee is a premium coffee that is grown on the slopes of two volcanoes present on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is one of the world’s rarest coffee that is known for its unique flavor and unmatched aroma. 100% Kona coffee is grown in porous and mineral-rich volcanic soil. The rich volcanic soil is full of nitrates, phosphates, iron, and manganese which make the coffee even better. The farmers have to take care of the environment under which it is grown and they hand-pick the seeds from an altitude of up to 3,000 feet. Best of all, there is no machine work involved in the production of this coffee and it reaches your cup as pure as it is.

So, if you're wishing to taste pure Kona coffee, you should know how to make pour-over coffee and some essential ways to keep it fresh.

How to make pour-over Kona coffee:

To prepare Kona coffee, you must keep the temperature around 195°F-205°F otherwise it will scorch the coffee.

  1. First, boil water up to 205°F (don't exceed it further).
  2. Make sure that you're using a pour-over coffee pot to make the coffee and put only 1 tablespoon of mediumly ground Kona coffee beans.
  3. One cup of hot water is enough for each tablespoon of coffee that you'll be using on the top of the grinds.
  4. With a slow and steady motion prepare the coffee, remove the filter, and taste the authentically brewed Kona coffee.

How to keep it fresh?

Coffee is just another agricultural product whose quality can be degraded due to oxidation. Your Kona coffee pack getting exposed to oxygen, sunlight, heat, and moisture will completely ruin its quality and it will taste like just another normal coffee or even worse.

As you buy a new pack of Kona coffee, you'll have to think about keeping it fresh from the day you open it. Kona coffee beans last longer than ground coffee beans but you have to put in some effort to maintain their quality. After making one cup of coffee, you have to seal the bag properly and store it in a cool, dry place. You should never keep the Kona coffee bag in a refrigerator. Coffee beans are susceptible to absorbing odors and flavors stored nearby in your refrigerator or freezer, which is why we strongly recommend (and also common sense) not to keep your open bag of whole beans with any fruits, vegetables, cheeses, or meats. We recommend that once your coffee bag is opened you vacuum-seal it for maximum freshness.
