When Should You Stop Using Maps?

Imagine driving into an unfamiliar city, unfamiliar streets and buildings. You need to figure out your way around.

You have no map. Not only that, you don’t have a smartphone. You need a copy of a map or a GPS.

Your only options: Go out and buy a map, or call someone who can give you directions. Either way, it’s going to cost you something, because in this economy, your wallet is the most important thing you have.

So forget what you might be tempted to think:

“It doesn’t cost me anything.”

It will cost you something, to buy a map, to pay for a phone call.

And with every purchase you make, you are giving some kind of information away. Somebody has to pay for that phone call, that Map you buy, that piece of information you let them give you.

When Should You Stop Using Maps?

You might argue that maps are useful, so you should continue using it. However, there are times when you should stop using maps and opt for digital versions.

1. When you can’t get to a place using your map. For example, when you need to get to the nearby supermarket from your house and you can’t find your way to it using your map, you should consider using an app. If you have an Android phone, I highly recommend Google Maps and Mapquest driving directions app.

Google Maps has tons of info about the locations of businesses and other information. It’s very easy to use and has beautiful interface. Using Google Maps, you can simply get directions to your destination, even if it’s in the middle of nowhere.
