Hayagriva Homam, Mantra & Puja for Success

Lord Hayagriva

Lord Hayagriva is a popular avatar of Lord Vishnu, one of the Trinity Gods of Hinduism. Hayagriva is one of the 24 avatars of Maha Vishnu, as mentioned in the Srimad Bhagavatam, a sacred Hindu text. The Hayagreeva avatar of Vishnu has a horse head and a human body.

Hayagreeva is the ocean of knowledge and wisdom; he resides in four Vedas, Rig, Yajur, Sama, and Atharvana Vedas. He is worshipped as the God of knowledge and wisdom. He is the one who taught knowledge to Goddess Saraswati.

He has a human body and features a horse's head, and is brilliant white. He wears white garments and is seated on a white lotus. Hayagriva is celebrated in the Puranas for rescuing the Vedas from the demons Madhu and Kaitabha and teaching them again to Brahma. He protects all living creatures, and without his grace, one cannot obtain good knowledge.

He carries Conch (Sankha), Disc (Chakra), Meditation beads, and Four Vedas in his hands. Maha Vishnu took this avatar and retrieved the Four Vedas stolen by a demon from Lord Brahma, the creator. Thus, Hayagriva's worship bestows knowledge and wisdom.

Hayagriva is one of the prominent deities of the Vaishnava tradition. His blessings are sought while commencing learning. Special worship is conducted on the day of the full moon in August (Śravaṇa-Paurṇamī) (his avatāra-diwas) and on Mahanavami, the ninth day of the Navaratri festival.

He is also hailed as “Hayasirsa” and “Hayavadhana”. Haya=Horse, and śirṣa and vadhana mean ‘Head’. Hayagriva seated in yoga position is known as ‘Yoga Hayagriva’ and one who is seated along with his consort, Lakshmi is hailed as ‘Lakshmi Hayagriva’.
