Reasons why low-pass filters are used more in electromagnetic compatibility design

According to the relative relationship between the frequency of the interference signal to be filtered and the working frequency, the interference filter includes a low-pass filter, high-pass filter, band-pass filter, band-stop filter, and so on. In electromagnetic compatibility design, low-pass filters are used the most because:

1. Electromagnetic interference is mostly higher frequency signals because higher frequency signals are easier to radiate and couple

2. Many high-order harmonics in digital circuits are unnecessary for circuit operation and must be filtered out to prevent interference with other circuits.

3. The filters on the power line are all grounded filters.

High-pass filters are used in situations where the interference frequency is lower than the signal frequency, such as filtering out the interference caused by power harmonics on some sensitive signal lines close to the power line.

Band-pass filters are used in situations where the signal frequency only occupies a narrow bandwidth. For example, a band-pass filter should be installed on the antenna port of a communication receiver to allow only communication signals to pass through.

Band-stop filters are used in applications where the interference frequency bandwidth is narrow and the signal frequency is wide. For example, a band-stop filter with a stop-band frequency equal to the transmitting frequency of the radio station should be installed at the cable port close to a high-power radio station.
