It offers guaranteed results in fixing the misalignment, gaps, over-crowdedness, and crookedness of the teeth with a customized treatment plan, according to the severity of the teeth. Only metal braces were available in the olden days to fix the disocclusion of the teeth, which had many disadvantages and difficulties while using. But there are several other types of braces available today that are a bit more comfortable and convenient to use and manage.

Below shown are different types of braces available today:

Metal Braces: This is the traditional form of braces that have been in the world for around 100 years. But several changes have taken place in its form from the traditional metal braces. With the change of time, it is now a bit more comfortable and easier to use compared to the traditional metal braces. As it is the most effective way in treating the extreme over-crowdedness and disocclusion of teeth, it is the widely recommended type of braces. But people who are concerned about their look opt it out fearing the metal appearance of their mouth. But today’s metal braces are more appealing in their appearance than the old metal brace as it is now available in different variety of colors for both brackets and elastic.

Ceramic Braces: Ceramic braces are braces that function in the same way as metal braces. But the material used to make its bracket is what primarily differentiates ceramic braces from metal braces. For ceramic braces, white or tooth-colored ceramic is used as brackets, which are more discreet and less revealing, making it preferable for people who are concerned about catching attention from others. Ceramic braces are a perfect and affordable substitute for metal braces. Although, it has a few drawbacks. A ceramic brace is slightly larger than a metal brace, making it less comfortable to use, and also it can get stained depending on brushing habits and diet.

Self-ligating Braces: These are braces that work similarly to metal and ceramic braces. But instead of using elastic rubber, as used in both metal and ceramic braces, self-ligating braces use doors or clips to hold the wire. A door is fixed on the bracket that can be opened and clipped conveniently making it preferable for people who choose less appointment time. With reduced friction and pressure, self-ligating braces enable the treatment to be completed with

Lingual Braces: Lingual braces are the least common orthodontic system available today. Because it is the most specialized treatment and requires a different set of Orthodontic skills. It is the choice of the dentist whether to attain proficiency in lingual braces as it is not taught in Orthodontic training. Lingual braces can offer advantages that no other braces can provide. It can be fully customized to your specific teeth and also can provide better efficiency and versatility than any other braces for selected patients. Although it offers many advantages, it does have disadvantages as well. As it is fixed behind the teeth, patients may feel irritation while speaking and discomfort to their tongue which slowly can be fixed by getting accustomed to it.

Aligners/Invisalign Braces: Invisalign braces have gained wide popularity in the last decade. It is one of the best choices for patients concerned with their looks. Because, it is white-colored, clear, and transparent. It can be easily removed and fixed. So, brushing and flossing are easy with aligners/Invisalign braces. They are used for people who have moderate dental problems like misaligned teeth, overbite, no-jaw alignment problems, and open-bite.
