South of Perth, just a few hours drive is the magnificent coastal Margaret River Region, internationally famous for producing high quality red and white wines; in fact it accounts for 20% of the australian premium wines production.

Here the warm maritime climate allows for the full ripening of grapes, with sea breezes cooling down the vineyards, helping the retention of the fresh fruit aromas and giving wines a lovely vertical elegance.


For the wine enthusiast this a must-see wine producing region, with boutique sized wineries and breathtaking landscape, a variety of wine tours and personal driver services are available for the wine aficionado.

Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz both benefit from the intense summer sunlight to ripen and develop wines with strong potent structures and complexity of aromas; Cabernet is often blended with Merlot to create Bordeaux-style blended wines.


White grapes like Chardonnay and Semillion give concentrated stone fruit aromas while retaining a high natural acidity giving complex and refreshing wines.

Semillion is often blended with Sauvignon Blanc to produce wines with attractive gooseberry and tropical fruit aromas again with a high palate clensing acidity.

Amelia Park is a fairly young winery, established in 2009, with a clear philosophy: “success starts in the vineyard”. Here the owners combine cutting edge technology and traditional wine making practices to create elegant, fruit-driven, complex wines. The numerous awards won by Amelia Park winery speak for themselves to show that this philospy in winemaking works.


Their Reserve Shiraz produced with grapes coming from a single vineyard and aged for two years in oak barrels presents itself with intense aromas of liquorice and black cherry underlined wiht sweet spices, the velvety mouthfeel and flavours of spiced plums offer a unique mouthfeel.


The Trellis collections has been recognized by wine writer Ray Jordan as best in its class – offering extraordinary value for money. The Trellis Chardonnay is fermented with wild yeats in oak barrels followed by 6 months of lees ageing, this gives the wine complex aromas and a wonderful structure.


Knotting Hill Estate is a family owned and operated winery, established from scratch by father and son Brian and Micheal Gould. 

The family love for wine allowed them to create exquisite products ranging from Bordeaux-style complex and structured reds to varietal refreshing whites made from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Cabernet Merlot blend produced here is an award-winning wine and its easy to see why, the bouquet shows intense and complex plums blackcurrant and black olives, the flavours unfold in layers of ripe dark fruits and spices with a lingering finish.


The Sauvignon Blanc expresses the characteristic grassy notes of this varietal followed by sweet citrus aromas, with a high mouth cleansing acidity it is a refreshing glass of white wine to quench your summer thirst.

Xanadu Wines is one of the first wineries established in Margaret River in 1968, and since then there has been significant investements in new technology and expansion – bringing the winery to manage more than 65 hectares of vineyards, while still being family owned and operated


Here the focus and passion is set on the vineyard to create high quality wines growing “old world” grapes as well as newly developed clones like Gingin Chardonnay and Houghton Cabernet to contribute to the regional integrity.

The Stevens Road collection is the absolute expression of Margaret River’s terroir with single vineyard wines such as the barrel fermented Gingin Chardonnay using wild yeast to introduce unique and complex fragrances into the wine giving it a unique personality. The burst of energy coming out of the glass is thrilling with butterscotch, citrus and grapefruit aromas the palate shows a crispy mineral finish with a lifting acidity.

The Xanadu Cabernet Sauvignon has won Best Australian Cabernet for 4 of the last 7 vintages; the typical Cabernet cassis and blue fruits aromas are vibrant with a generous palate of blackfruit and berry fruit and perfectly ripe tannins.


Family owned by the Ullinger family since 1977 is a winery established to be a great place for anyone who wants to visit and enjoy a drink of their favourite beverage. Redgate Wines is a stop that you have to make during your wine tour.


This winery prduces a varied range of wines from sparkling down to rosé; you could start your tour with a refreshing glass of Bubble, a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blend sparkling wine made with the traditional method, or you could sit down enjoy the amazing view and drink Anastasia, a Sauvignon Blanc that is bound to impress you with a wide array of aromas ranging from mandarin and nectarine all the way to almonds and sweet spice with its cuddly lucious body.

One winery that has been gaining popularity in 2022 is Larry Cherubino's Cellar Door

The wines aren't the only special thing about this place. Upon driving through the majestic gates, you are welcomed with what is one of the best designed grounds of any winery in Margaret River. With a dam in the middle for the vineyard, the views are very special and the cellar door boasts a 2 level house with an Art Gallery.


There isn’t quite a place that can hold a candle to Margaret River if you’re a wine enthusiast with refreshing, salty wind from the Ocean, a nice warming australian sun and family made and loved high class wine
