Bathroom Interior Design Company

While the recent decade's modern styles have evolved into a more contemporary aesthetic for homes in general, the pendulum continues to swing. Design is currently at a fork in the road. While clean, modern lines and the colour white have been the most popular bathroom design trends in recent years, retro and vintage features are starting to make a comeback.

It's crucial to remember, though, that bathroom design is a significant investment. Whether a space need a complete overhaul, a gentle refresh, or a weekend DIY, the challenge is to create something that won't feel old in five, perhaps even ten years. I chatted with a few of the industry's best interior designers to get their thoughts on the bathroom design trends for 2020.

Sustainable Bathrooms

In the design sector, sustainability has become a top issue, with manufacturers attempting to offer environmentally friendly building materials and furniture. Native Trails' Mendocino Tub is a great example of this. "At Native Trails, we believe that sustainability should not come at the expense of style," says Naomi Neilson, the company's founder and CEO. "A beautiful freestanding bathtub, our most recent artisan-made product release, is a perfect example of that."

NativeStone, an eco-friendly blend of natural jute fibre and cement, is used to handcraft the Mendocino tub. It has a rustic-yet-sleek, modern-yet-earthy style.

Creating A Spa At Home

What better setting for a soaking tub than a spacious master suite? For years, master suites with spa-like bathrooms have been popular, and they're here to stay. According to Vian Abreu, Senior Interior Designer at Interior Marketing Group, this also demonstrates how wellness has become a larger cultural trend. "The most popular bathroom design concept for 2020 is to create a spa-like environment with a strong emphasis on wellness and relaxation," she explains.

Heated flooring, steam showers, aromatherapy with HVAC scenting, and heated or cooled vanity drawers for towels or skincare, as well as built-in speakers, are all examples of spa elements for the home.

Retro Vintage Styles

While many people choose to include contemporary technologies into their bathroom decor, others prefer a more vintage look. Original BTC's Founder and Managing Director, Peter Bowles, feels that this is due to social media's emphasis on establishing one-of-a-kind locations. "To do this," he continues, "bathroom design is taking a nostalgic turn, echoing vintage styles that mimic the flair and functionality of the 1930s and 1960s."

"This is true for lighting as well as other areas like bath furnishings and tile work." Our Art Deco-inspired Pillar Offset Wall Light, which comes in a weathered brass finish with fluted glass for additional vintage beauty, is a great example of this."

Another approach to introduce historic details into a bathroom is to use outlined parts and mosaics. "Creating inlaid mosaic mats out of tile or placing wallpaper in panels, for example," explains Gideon Mendelson, founder of the Mendelson Group.

Marble Is Evolving

When remodelling a bathroom, it's easy to lose your marbles, but rest certain that marble will remain one of the most popular natural stone kinds for many years to come. Interior designer Sara Beverin of Interior Marketing Group, on the other hand, believes that this tendency is beginning to shift. "We've seen a lot of traditional Carrara and Calcutta marbles utilised, but I anticipate more risks will be taken in the future with more distinctive and bold marbles that can stand alone as artwork in the room."

Wallpaper Isn't Going Away

Wallpaper has made a comeback in recent years, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon, especially in bathrooms. It's also a sign that the trend is moving back to more conventional styles. "One of those strategies is matching wallpaper with textiles," adds Mendelson, "and in a bathroom, it's a method we employ to incorporate pattern without overloading the space with contrast and variations of scale."
