Benefits of Using Relays as Interface Modules!

Relays are utilized generally as interface modules. They are meant to perform different tasks. Here are the advantages of using relays. Whether separating, switching, amplifying, or multiplying, relays are responsible for different functions in industrial control applications, with specific features available in almost innumerable varieties. Read on!

Benefits of relays:

Effective & Simple operations

Relays have a simple operating principle. The flowing current in the coil creates a magnetic field that attracts the lever and changes switch contacts. This allows remote device control. Activated with a low current, relays can switch large circuits with little energy.

Circuit multiplication

Relays are capable of switching many contacts simultaneously. Each output contact can be used to switch load circuits with different current & voltage levels.

Galvanic isolation

Relays are meant to ensure safe galvanic isolation. Relays detach control circuits from load circuits. Relays act as a control device as well as a safety device.

Accessorising

A complete relay body has a socket, pluggable interface relay, holder, and a functional module. Each accessory has its own set of functions to help increase the performance of the relay.

AC or DC switching

Most relays are used for switching DC or AC loads. They can be used both for ac and dc systems to protect equipment.

Compact in size & cost

Relays combine low cost with higher value and performance. This offers functions space-saving housing. Despite high raw material prices, they are still very inexpensive and can be easily integrated into various circuit types.

Easy installation & troubleshooting

Relays are easy to mount by snapping them onto the DIN rail. Jumper bars make a connection even more accessible. Troubleshooting needs isolation of components and a bench setup to verify operation. Many relay models have a switch on top, allowing the technician to switch contacts on/off, even with no power to the coil. This isolates problems to the input/output side immediately, never demanding a single wire to be shredded.

Test button & Led indication

Relays indicate the position of contacts via the optional led module. The switching state is visible to a naked eye. Some relays have an optional test button; when pushed, the connections operate. Upon release, the contacts return to their original form.

High resistance

Relays are characterised by high resistance to voltage transients. Via RC modules, voltage peaks are compensated through a capacitor. They are resistant to short-term overload on both output/input sides without losing functionality.

Long and Maintenance-free life

Irrespective of environment and application, maintenance & repair are a must and should be taken care of at regular intervals. Relays considerably reduce the required effort, making work faster, easier, affordable, and safer. For more on relays, check here!
