WHOLE HOUSE REMODELING: HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

You've decided to remodel your entire house, but you're not sure how long it'll take or how long you'll have to be out of your home while it's being done. Here are some general guidelines for whole-house remodelling to help you estimate how long the project will take.

A total home remodel can include a lot of different things. It could be anything from a kitchen, living room, and a couple of bathrooms in a small house to a complete renovation of a larger house.

As a result, the price may vary. They usually cost between $200,000 and $1,000,000, depending on the size of your home and the scope and complexity of the work.

However, if you break your project down into three stages, you can get a good idea of how long it will take.

Preparation and Construction of the Discovery Design

PHASE 1: EXPERIENCE

During the discovery phase, you'll interview designers and contractors, as well as design/build firms like Lamont Bros., to see what's possible and how much you'll need to budget for your remodel.

This stage can last anywhere between two weeks and two months. This is entirely dependent on how many people you meet and how long it takes you to find the right person for your project.

We always advise prospective clients to interview with a variety of firms so that they can get a variety of ideas and aren't locked into a single design concept. This also allows the client to see how different design firms approach problems, how they view the space, and how they might collaborate.

PHASE 2: DEVELOPMENT

After you've decided on a company to complete your entire home remodel, you'll move on to the design phase. This can last anywhere from six weeks to four months.

Again, a variety of factors can influence the timeline during this phase. These factors include the scope of your project, the need for surveys, the length of time engineering takes, and the number of design revisions you make.

This stage of the process involves a lot of planning, drawing creation, and meetings, so the larger your remodel, the longer it will take.

PHASE 3: PREPARE AND BUILD

After that, you'll begin the preparation and construction phases of your remodel. Your contractor or design/build firm will secure permits, order materials, set crew and subcontractor schedules, and more during the prep phase.

The preparation process should take between 4 and 8 weeks. However, if things like planning reviews and inspections from city officials are required, this can take several months.

CONSTRUCTION

The project moves into the construction phase once the prep work is completed. Because this is where the majority of the work will be done, it will have the most impact on the timeline.

This should take anywhere between 4 and 6 months for smaller whole-house remodels. Larger whole-house remodels can take anywhere from 6 to 12 months to complete, depending on the complexity of the work.

RENOVATION OF THE WHOLE HOUSE: TOTAL TIMELINES

Smaller whole-house remodels, on average, will take 7 to 10 months to complete from discovery to completion if everything goes according to plan.

Larger whole-house remodels take 9 to 15 months on average but can take longer if there are issues with city permits or other unforeseen circumstances.
