How To Be A Successful Graphic Designer

Being a graphic designer is much more than meets the eye. It's hearing about an idea and turning it into a story. Something that gets the point across and that people will resonate with.

As a designer, you can tell this story creatively using colors, fonts, elements, textures, and all other graphic elements.

Each design is a new, unique piece of art born into this world, and while you have the freedom to be creative and choose your own style, there are some key graphic design tips and basics that every designer should know.

It is for this reason that I went on a quest and spoke to many different professional graphic designers and asked them what graphic design tips they live by and what they would share with their fellow designers.

After collecting a lot of different opinions and graphic design basics, I came up with a list of graphic design tips that you can start implementing in your current and future design projects. I also use these tips to make designs for Dubai web Design Company.

So without further ado, let's jump right in and start learning about the techniques to follow to achieve the great graphic design.

1. Limit the number of fonts you use

This might be the most common tip I've gotten from designers I've talked to. They highly recommend that you use different fonts in one design, but don't go overboard and overdo it.

You always want to make sure your fonts work well together, and try to limit the number of fonts you use to three or less. Experiment and play with fonts you already have in the software you work with, or you can always download them for free from reputable font websites.

2. Change the text size and height to fit your design perfectly.

You can always play around with the text that is overlaid on the image. You can increase or decrease the line height and letter spacing to create a "frame effect". You can see in this image that the row height has been significantly reduced and the size has been increased exponentially.

Make sure the placement of your text is pleasing to the eye and try to achieve symmetry for this effect. I also reduced the transparency of the text to make the mountains pass through the text, which really brought the quote to life.

3. Use contrasting fonts to stand out-they make a perfect pair.

When designing, the goal is to grab someone's attention and show them what you're trying to say. You can make a big statement with little tricks like this. Use contrasting fonts. For example, you can use a bold sanserif font with italics and a romantic font to show people the mood of the text.

4. Don't be afraid to go BIG

When choosing elements for your design, remember: larger objects attract more attention than smaller ones. If you use multiple elements, make sure your main object is larger than the others, as your viewer's eye will automatically be drawn to the larger of the two objects. Scale all elements of your design: text, elements, buttons, everything.

5. Track your text—give each letter its own space.

You have to leave each letter some personal space and give it room to breathe. Letter spacing and kerning typography are huge problems. It can really make or break a design. Some fonts have some weird letter spacing by default, but luckily you can take care of that and handle it like a pro.

Increase or decrease the spacing between the letters depending on the situation and try again until it looks right and each letter has its own perfect place.

6. Use contrasting colors.

Opposites attract, and that's a fact. It is in our nature to be interested in the unusual, which is why the use of contrasting colors in graphic design is a must. It is eye-catching, it makes a statement, and it has an impressive graphic design.

7. Use blank space if you can.

As they say, less is more. Sometimes you don't need to add lots of colors, elements, or fonts to get your message across. I spoke to one designer in particular, and he said you should use white space whenever you can. By using a blank space, you prevent your message from getting lost in the chaos and noise of your design.

White space is elegant, simple, yet sophisticated and beautiful. And the great thing about this technique is that it's almost less work for you! But then again, when does a designer ever not work?

8. Be consistent in your design.

Consistency is the one thing that can take all the different elements in your design and tie them together and make them work. In an awareness campaign, it's vital that people start putting 2 and 2 together and start recognizing your cause. Consistency gets people interested.

So be consistent in your colors. Use color palettes in your designs and adjust the size, spacing, and placement of typography. When your design is consistent, your client will be happy.

9. Use flat design to your advantage.

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to work endless nights and hours to create a fantastic design using complicated 3D elements. Flat design is your friend. Remember it. And the great thing about flat design is that it's become more and more popular over the years, which is great news for beginners and advanced designers alike.

10. Give your text a good structure.

Use the alignment tools in whatever software you use to your advantage. Whenever you add text to your graphic design, be sure to coordinate it with other elements in the design to make it visually pleasing.

By aligning your text and giving it a beautiful structure, you increase the readability of your viewer. Also, remember to keep your text to an absolute minimum, as viewers' attention spans can unfortunately be very short.

11. Icons

You can use icons to grab the viewer's attention whenever you want. Icons don't have to be limited to famous logos like Twitter or Instagram. You can use icons of all kinds to get some extra visual pizzazz. You can create your own icons that are simply black and white or colorful.

Let them have a flat design or a 3D one. Integrate them into your design to increase the aesthetic value of your design and improve the experience of your viewers when they engage with your great graphic design.
