How to Choose the Right Heater for Your Pool?

Winter is here faster than we expected. It's time to heat your pool now. A heated pool has many therapeutic benefits. It keeps you swimming, increases blood circulation and keeps your health in tip-top condition. A pool heater helps you maintain the pool temperature during the day and night. No matter how cold it is outside, your pool will always be ready for swimming.

The operating costs of a pool heater differ from model to model. Some heaters last three to four premium brands and can last more than 10 or 12 years. Just be sure to install it early in the season for maximum enjoyment. Have a maintenance check once a year to maintain the efficiency of your thermometer for many years. But first, which pool heater should you use?

Does the size of pool heaters matter?

The size of pool heaters makes a difference. It must be appropriate for the size of your group to be effective. Heaters that are too small for the size of the pool will not be effective in heating the pool evenly. Before you invest, make sure you have a rough estimate of the size and shape of the pool. Measure if necessary at the widest and longest points, the maximum and minimum depth. Take these measurements to your pool dealer to calculate the volume. Then find a suitable pool heater that meets your needs.

Types of heaters

Solar pool heaters

The sun's energy is used to heat solar-powered pool heaters. These are the simplest, they use black plastic or rubber panels to absorb the heat where the water passes through to heat the pool. Solar heaters are the most affordable and easiest to install. They are cheaper and have lower operating costs than gas heaters or heat pumps.

On the other hand, solar pool heaters are inconsistent in that they are effective at heating only when the sun and pool are outdoors. The valves work well to shut off the water floor in colder weather. There is also no way to control the temperature like in gas heaters and heat pumps. The sun decides the temperature for you.

Heat pumps

These are equipped with built-in fans to draw in hot air from outside. They blow hot air over the evaporator coil in the heat pump that has refrigerant. The hot air is mixed with coolant which produces war gas from the chemical reaction that heats a metal tube to a comfortable temperature, after which it turns off. Unlike solar heaters, heat pumps allow you to select the exact temperature to heat the pool. But they are slow to make and expensive to buy.

Gas pool heaters

Gas pool heaters quickly heat the water to the exact temperature you want. They work by igniting propane or natural gas inside a combustion chamber in a heater that heats a metal coil. The pool water is heated as it passes through the heater, then the temperature valve closes automatically, although it can be controlled manually through the built-in controls.

The gas heater works more effectively and quickly if you enjoy spontaneous swimming. If you need to heat the pool only when swimming, just for a few hours, these may work best and turn out to be the most affordable.
