Door Sensors to Strengthen Your Home Security

Door contacts are vital parts of an intrusion alarm system. There is a huge variety of door contacts available in the market such as overhead door magnetic contacts, surface mounted magnetic contacts, recessed mounted magnetic contacts and more. It is important to understand their functions and features to choose the right product to suit your application.

Residential vs. commercial

Whether you're working on a residential or business project will determine who you contact. A commercial building will, in many situations, require contacts with larger gaps than a residential building. For instance, a warehouse door or a set of lobby doors will have significantly greater play between the door and the frame than typical doors in a house.

The size and construction of the door contact is another important consideration. Residential door contacts are typically smaller in size and designed to be fitted on household doors. Commercial door contacts are often larger and built for metal doors or a more industrial entrance and usually made of aluminium or metal instead of plastic.

Wired vs. wireless

Is your client looking to buy wired magnetic door sensor alarm, or wireless door contacts? Wireless contacts communicate with the alarm control panel using wireless RF signals, whereas wired contacts communicate with the panel using a hardwired connection.

A wireless sensor is easy to install and set up because there are no wires to run from the system to the contact. Many users prefer wired connectors because they are more trustworthy. Another benefit of a wired contact is that it does not require batteries to operate, therefore the user does not have to worry about replacing batteries as frequently as with a wireless contact.

Surface mounted magnetic contacts vs recessed mounted magnetic contacts

There are two techniques to mount door contacts. Surface mounted magnetic contacts are visible from the outside, whereas recessed contacts are buried between the door and the frame. Surface-mount magnetic contacts are generally easier to install than recessed magnetic contacts since no holes must be bored to mount them. As the sensor is not visible, adding a recessed mounted magnetic contacts results in a cleaner, more seamless look.

Wide door contact vs. standard door contact

You may need to utilise a standard-gap contact or a wide-gap contact depending on the characteristics of the door you're installing the sensor on. Wide-gap door contacts have a substantially bigger space between the sensor and the magnet than standard contacts. They can now be used on garage doors, industrial applications, and gates.

  • Wide-gap contacts are larger in appearance than standard-gap contacts. Keep this in mind while planning your installations since, unless a large gap is required, a standard-gap sensor will be the best option if the user's appearance is crucial
