However, the radio was developed as an electromagnetic wave that could transmit music, voice, pictures, and even data across the air from one location to another. Some devices utilise electromagnetic waves such as radios, microwave ovens, cell phones, remotes, televisions, and others. The frequency of radio waves ranges from 3 Hz (very low frequency (ELF)) to 300 GHz (EHF).

A series of experiments were conducted between the beginning of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century to study the effect of electricity on magnetism based on previous speculations. Alessandro Volta developed methods for generating electric currents in 1800, and Gian Domenico Romagnosi worked on the relationships between electric current and magnetism in Italy in the mid-to-late 1800s. However, his research has not been recognized.

In 1829, Hans Christian Ørsted proposed an experiment to demonstrate the magnetic property of electric current, which is the current winding in a wire causes a nearby compass needle to deviate. André-Marie Ampère was inspired to develop the concept of electromagnetism by Ørsted's experiment, and Francesco Zantedeschi for his research on the connection between light, electricity, and magnetic fields.

Faraday proved the existence of electromagnetic induction in 1831 by conducting experiments to support his law. He built the electromagnetic force into a mathematical model of his law.

In 1832, Joseph Henry performed an experiment to prove that magnetic force could act from a height of 61m. He was also the first person to create alternating current oscillating with frequency high number. The experiment showed that the alternating current would produce an oscillating force with a frequency that gradually decreased until it returned to equilibrium.

In 1881, Maxwell developed electromagnetic wave theory as part of his dynamic theory of electrical fields. It was published in the Royal Scientific Journal under the title "Dynamic Theory of Electric Fields." Maxwell was the one who unified important physics concepts such as electricity, magnetism, and light into Maxwell's equations, which are still important today. Maxwell's electromagnetic wave theory was an important foundation for radio waves as well as the radio.
