Super Duplex Stainless Steel Fasteners: Applications

Fasteners made of super-duplex stainless steel

Duplex stainless steel with a pitting resistance equivalent number (PREN) of more than 40 is referred to as super duplex stainless steel. Super duplex stainless steels are known for their outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride-containing environments.

High yield and tensile strength.

The alloy typically comprises at least 25% chromium, 7% nickel, 3.6% molybdenum, and 0.25% nitrogen, though these percentages can change depending on the grade.

Duplex Steel 329 Fasteners Application

Duplex Steel 329 Fasteners are a high-alloy duplex steel that combines the toughness of ferritic and austenitic steel varieties. It has increased corrosion resistance and is stronger than ferritic steel grades. Oil and gas pipelines, seawater heat exchangers, seawater handling equipment, desalination equipment, scrubber systems in power plants, process vessels holding aggressive media, and liquefied natural gas tanks are just a few examples of the many uses for super duplex stainless steel.

A kind of stainless steel known as duplex has two microstructures, austenite and ferrite. Duplex stainless steel has a microstructure that makes it stronger than austenitic stainless steel while maintaining a similar level of corrosion resistance. A minimum yield strength of 65ksi (450MPa) is required for alloy 2205 duplex stainless steel (UNS S32205, 1.4462) as opposed to just 25ksi (170MPa) for alloy 316L. (UNS S31603, 1.4404).

Duplex stainless steel fasteners are a form of corrosion-resistant and very simple to produce stainless steel fasteners. The greatest qualities of both austenitic and ferritic stainless steel are combined in them. These include toughness, high strength, and crack resistance.

Super Duplex Stainless Steel Fasteners' Benefits

In addition to the previously described benefits, they can be strengthened through further processing. For instance, Duplex stainless steel fasteners can be hardened to increase yield stress and ultimate tensile strength while decreasing flexibility.

Fasteners made of Super Duplex Steel S32750, like UNS S32750, combine high strength with exceptional corrosion resistance. They are particularly resistant to stress corrosion cracking in settings where chloride is present, including brackish water and seawater.

Cold forming can strengthen the steel, often doubling its strength, but it is only useful for smaller diameter bars. It is discovered that the steel is only moderately robust under impact stresses. This is a suitable attribute if the component will be working under tension with little impact loads.
