Freshen up your old closet for great new western wear looks

Somedays finding something to wear can seem like a daunting morning task. Every cowgirl has a closet full of western clothing and feel from time to time that there’s nothing in there to wear. I call that apparel apathy. There’s a ton of reasons for feeling that way when you rummage for something to wear. Boredom with what you have, things that don’t fit just right, or you just get into a rut with the same outfits. Here’s a couple easy fixes to help you get past that slump and feel shiny and new in your old stuff!

A whole new world….

Sometimes something simple as wearing the same old thing in a whole new way can change the way you feel about it. We all have a ton of western tees and jeans in our closets and dressers. Here are some simple ways to wear those go-to basics to make them feel fresh. I like to take my western tees that I’ve worn a million times, and change them up a bit with some DIY hacks. Take those long sleeves and crop them to short sleeves when the season changes, or trim the hem off for a worn, vintage feel. Sometimes adding a pocket in some fun fabric can change the whole look of a tee. Bleach dying is also a great way to update a tee into a trend. Cutting the hem just a bit or into a crop tee can give it a whole new life.

When those old faithful western wear jeans feel just old, here are some good ways to make them feel new again. Add some easy embellishments to freshen up your denim. Cuff and stud the leg, or make patterns of studs or stones on the legs or pockets.  Putting trim on a pocket or down the outside seam are also a great way to update your jeans. Bleach dipping the hems of the jeans and adding a great western print by paint or stencil is a fun way to add some newness to old denim.

Accessorize, accessorize, accessorize….

Just adding a new accessory to an old outfit can make it feel fun and fresh again. Scarves are a great trend in western wear now and a great way to upgrade a simple top look.  Adding a fun western slide or brooch can one up that look even further. Wearing a beautiful western brooch or vintage pin on a simple or western print tee can elevate it and make it fun. Hats are great ways to pull an outfit together for a fun new look, and bonus, help out on bad hair days! Pull some of your favorite turquoise and silver necklaces and layer them heavy over simple western tops or printed tees for a great new chic look.

Switch it up…..

If your go to look is your favorite western tee and jeans, pair that old favorite tee with a pair of slacks or fancy skirt to dress it up, or wear a pair of your favorite worn jeans with a dressy blouse or top to dress it down. Play with items in your closet in new ways to mix up dressed up or dressed down looks.

Organization is Key….

Sometimes the simplest solution is to simply organize your closet. Put all your tops together, your pants/jeans together, your jackets together. It’ll give you a quicker preview to build the best outfit for the day, especially after you’ve hit the snooze button 2 or 3 times on a Monday morning!
