Discuss some general theories of organisational communication models?

Organisational communication is the most complex area and requires a huge amount of efficiency in order to increase the growth of a company. There are several types of organisational communication theories like Laswell’s, Schramm’s, Aristotle theory and so on. There are several types of the communication barrier in Brit-techlike interpersonal, physical, Organisation structure and also the perceptual barriers. This study shows the communication barrier, general theories of communication and strategies used by the company to overcome the communication barrier.

Organisational communication is a broad area that includes all forms of communication. It gives the opportunity to the governmental, non-governmental and companies to connect with their employees and also with the consumers. There are several theories and models in organisational communication. Organisational communication includes both the external and internal communication. Internal communication includes training, communication between employees and employer and sharing the message about the company's mission. External communication deals with marketing, press releases and so on. There are several barriers in the communication that leads to employees unwilling to return to the office during the new normal like physical, interpersonal, emotional, organisational structure barriers and so on. The aim of this study is to find out the theories of organisational communication and discuss the communication barriers that Brit-tech faces and also find out some strategies that the organisation uses to overcome these barriers.

General theories of organisation communication:

There are several theories and models in the organisation of communication like Aristotle’s theory, Laswell’s model, Schramm’s model, intermediary model and so on. Harold Lassswelis an American political science scientist he discovered a convenient way of communication that includes several processes like who says what and in which channel to whom at last what is the effect of the communication.

Laswell’s theory of communication model is an example of the one way or the linear communication model. As per the ideas of Lingling, (2021) there are mainly three functions of communication like cultural transmission, correlations of the components in the society and also surveillance of the environment. The model is mainly used in political communication, propaganda and also used as the political symbolism (Galiullinaet al.2019). The model also assumes that the sender may influence the receiver and therefore, it is regarded as the convincing communication process.

Another important cyclical model is Schramm’s model of communication. There are mainly two paths in communication. According to Lin and Lin, (2020) There are several elements of this model like sender, receiver, message, feedback and so on.

There are several advantages of this model like field of experience, context, culture and so on. This is the first model that is not linear, there is a feedback system in this model. As per the ideas of Kimmel, and Mutto, (2019) this model helps to understand the problems that may arise during the decoding of the message that is sent by a sender. Limitations like it accounts only for bilateral communication between two parties and multiple levels of sources is not described in this model.

Aristotle’s model is one of the oldest and basic models in communication. There are mainly three elements in this model like speaker, audience and subject.

Speaker plays an important and primary role in this model and the speaker may passively influence the audience. As per the ideas of Kalogiannidis and Papaevangelou,, (2020) this model is speaker oriented model and there is no induction of feedback from the receiver. There are also three components in this model like Ethos, logos and pathos. Logos is considered as one of the important components of this model that actually signifies the logic (Krishnan et al.2021). Pathos is the communication model that allows the speaker to connect with their audience via various emotional states like sadness, happiness, anger and so on. Ethos may be defined as the credibility of the speaker; without effective communication the speaker cannot hold their audience for a long time.

Shannon and Weaver communication model basically provides a visual mode of communication model. As per the ideas of Kubota, (2019) the model mainly deals with various types of concepts like transmitter, noise, channel, receiver, destination, decode, encode and so on.

This communication model basically deals with technological, effective and semantic levels. According to Chaisanit, (2018) this model reduces the uncertainty and also minimises the effect of noise. An important advantage of this model is that it can distinguish between receiver and destination, also source and transmitter.
