Rummy is a favorite card game played by many people in India. Have you ever planned to play Magic Rummy with your friends and learn the rules for Rummy Games? We have already discussed the fundamental rules of the rummy card game in our previous article. In this blog post, we at Magic Rummy will assist you to get an understanding of the set and sequence of the Rummy Game.

Magic Rummy is an extraordinary outlet that allows you to play with friends and folk over video chat with real cash. The main objective of playing any rummy card game is to take out the cards, that is, you need to develop a packet of cards into sets or sequences.

What do you mean by Sets and Sequence for Rummy Games?

Remember that different versions of Magic Rummy have different rules for rummy game sets and sequences. Before you start playing the game, it is best to go through the rules of rummy games which we have covered in our previous blog. Please read the entire blog post for different sets and sequences for rummy games.

What is a set?

A set is a group of cards that consist of three or four cards of a similar rank of various suits to sort a set. A set cannot comprise more than one card of any suit. Rummy rules allow you to use one or more jokers to replace with any other card in a deck. Sets can also be made with three or more cards of the same rank in different suits. You can also use jokers or wildcards to create sets.

Examples of sets:

1. Set without Joker in rummy

a. 5♦-5♥-5♣

There are 7 from three different suits in this set.

b. 7♦-7♠-7♥-7♣

This set contains 2 of the four different suits.

2. Set with a Joker in rummy

a. 5♠-5♣-K♥ (Wild Joker)

This set contains K♥ as a wild joker.

b. 9♦-9♠-9♥-PJ

PJ is considered as a Printed joker that is non-compulsory in this set.

Other Rules of Rummy Set

In some sets of rummy, you may have up to four cards. So, if you use a set of four cards with an extra joker, that would be counted as a 5 card set in total. Some arrangements of rummy card games, such as Magic Rummy, do not let the same rank and suit be recounted twice.

What is a sequence?

The sequence mainly comprises three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. It can also be called a run. You can also use jokers or wildcards to create rummy sequences. There are two different types of runs in Rummy games-

  1. a pure sequence, and

  2. an impure sequence

Pure Sequence in Rummy:

The pure sequence comprises a group of three or more successive cards of the same form. You can't replace any card replaced by Joker in Pure Sequence. According to the rules of the rummy game, you must make at least one pure sequence to get an acceptable decision.

Examples of Pure Sequence:

a. 5♦-6♦-7♦

A pure sequence is consisting of three consecutive brick cards. No joker in place of any card here.

b. A♣-2♣-3♣4♣

A pure sequence is consisting of four consecutive club cards. You can't replace any card with the Joker in the sequence.

c. 3❤-4❤-5❤-6❤-7❤

Pure sequences consisting of five consecutive pan cards. No joker is used in this sequence.

It's beneficial to use the wild joker in pure sequence to get its original value, but if you only want it as a card of its original suit and not to put back any other card. Let's consider the following example:

8❤-9❤-10❤ (WJ)

The impure sequence in Rummy:

An impure sequence is a sequence in which 3 or more cards are arranged in a sequence. In an impure sequence, replace the cards with a joker or jokers.

Examples of Impure Sequence:

a. 3♥-J♥-PJ-K♥

You can see here that the printed joker has been replaced by Q♥ in this impure sequence.

b. 3♠-4♠-8♦ (WJ)

Here in this impure sequence, 8♦ is a wild joker, which has been replaced by 5♠.

However, we all know that different editions of rummy games may have particular combinations but the basic combinations- sets, and sequences for rummy games remain the same.
