Dolpo and Mustang which is connecting with Tibet

The Upper Dolpo and Upper Mustang trekking areas are connected, which is one of the highest inhabited areas in the world. Although it is far from the hustle and bustle of modernization, it remains a stronghold of the ancient Bon-Po religion. Before Buddhism emerged on the Tibetan plateau, this religion existed.

The culture of Dolpo is heavily influenced by Tibetan influences. It is also home to a variety of wildlife that is not found in the lower reaches of the Himalayas. However, the region is cut off from the rest of Nepal due to the presence of snow throughout the year.

The people of Dolpo still live in a nomadic manner. The Upper Mustang inhabitants, on the other hand, practice both luxury and comfort. Several factors contribute to this, including the famous Silk Route that runs through the Mustang region. Tibetan nomads still use the salt route to trade with Tibet in the Upper Dolpo region. There are two wonderful locations that makeup Upper Dolpo Trek - Dolpo and Mustang. In addition to being equally beautiful and unique, both are at the same time a little challenging to approach.

Trek Route

The trek begins with an amazing flight over the Himalayas to reach Juphal. From here, you will travel to the Suligad River Gorge and then to Lake Phoksundo. We will cross our first pass at 5000 meters above sea level to reach Shey Gompa and Crystal Mountain.

To reach Saldang, you must cross another pass.

(This is the same village where the first Nepali movie "Caravan - Himalaya" was filmed. It was later nominated for an Oscar in the foreign films category

During your stay here, you will have some time to explore and acclimatize. In addition, you will gain an insight into the lifestyle of the Tibetan people during the Autumn Harvest. From here, we proceed to a more remote area in the Pansang Valley, which includes the regions of Khoma, Shimen, and Tinkyu.

Trails and mountain pass connecting these remote villages and hamlets provide a treasure trove of cultural heritage. It is a sight that should not be missed.

There is also a distinct Tibetan culture in the Upper Dolpo region known as the Bhotiya Culture (ethnic- linguistically Tibetan people living in the Trans-Himalayan region). There are remnants of the Thakali culture in Mustang. One of the ancient monasteries in the area is Shey Gompa. Mustang and Dolpo appear so similar, yet they are so different in terms of their cultures, lifestyles, and religious beliefs.

The Upper Dolpo Trek itinerary starts by plane from Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Juphal-Dunai. it is also the same way to do the Lower Dolpo trek, but after the lake, it goes up for the upper part, Various picturesque landscapes can be viewed along the trail, as well as vast mountain ranges. Through arid landscapes and mixed forests, the trail leads to Ringmo Lake and Say Phoksundo Lake and through indigenous cultures. A Buddhist monastery called Gombas Monastery is located in Crystal Mountain, and it contains semi-precious stones and historical buildings. The Upper Dolpo passes through villages inhabited by ethnic Buddhists. Tibetans only speak Tibetan in this area. Our hike will take us to the last settlement before Tibet, and we can see the Tibetan border as we reach Musi Gaun. Continuing our ascent, we reach Jomsom nice city most of the trekkers end their trek here and do thorong la pass trekking and Jomsom Muktinath trek, the Sangdala pass (5,111 meters). It is the starting point of the Upper Mustang Trek, the Tilicho Pass Trek, the Dhaulagiri Pass, and the Thapa peak climb.

Accommodations

The Chharka Bhot has only a basic tea house room during the Upper Dolpo trek. but the rest of the places are only camping, with “no tea house access”. of course, Dunai bazaar, Phoksundo lake, and Jomsom have nice accommodations when trekking through the Upper Dolpo.
