Does ground-penetrating radar give out accurate results?

Ground-penetrating radar is an effective, safe technology and most reliable technique of concrete scanning. Moreover, a lot of confusion occurs when talking about it, like what one can and cannot do. Therefore, the content will help you to understand this technology properly.

Who can perform scanning?

It is simple to use and set up scanning equipment so anyone can buy it easily. But, understanding its data is not an easy task. The image recognition of the surface can make the biggest mistake. It should be accurate; otherwise, it can lead to inaccuracy.

The screen reflects a black and white static initially. But, what if when the testing performs detection of the object shown by a hyperbola on the screen?

Only a trained technician can understand the data and elaborate accurately.

On which surface can it be applied?

It works on most surfaces, but it does not give accurate data on the moisture surface. The moisture surface does not have a proper signal in the scanning, so it isn't easy to get accurate data.

It isn't easy to apply scanning with the new concrete structure because it contains higher moisture. Other non-performing surfaces are- wadding, marble, and granite.

How much depth is necessary for GPR scanning?

This scanning can be performed at up to 20 inches. If you do it on a thicker slab, technicians have to scan from both sides. After that, technicians can use concrete ultrasound technology.

Is GPR apparatus can distinguish between objects?

To differentiate between the surface screen and scanned data is a difficult task. Surfaces like post-tensioned cables, rebar, and conduits do not represent separate data. That's why technicians used the advanced method to distinguish between surface objects accurately and construct data.

Is GPR is 100% accurate technology?

It is the most effective non-destructive testing method, but it is not 100% reliable. It varies based on the material condition and the person using the equipment. Expert technicians are used with advanced technology to reduce errors in concrete scanning.

Summing-Up-

There is a need to practice reading data of concrete scanning. It creates disillusion between the surface object and scanned data, hence needs a trained person to get an accurate reading.

About the Author:

PCTE supplies a range of equipment from around the world to offer you a one stop shop with all of the latest equipment. Concrete Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) comprises testing a property of concrete, largely without damaging the concrete to assess some parameter that either directly or indirectly provides a required characteristic of the concrete or its embedment.
