LASER VISION CORRECTION

Since 1987, Bharti Eye Foundation has been a well-known facility for myopia correction surgery. In 1995, the foundation obtained an Excimer laser, and Dr. S. Bharti used it to perform the first LASIK procedure in Delhi in November of that same year.

Laser vision correction methods are

1. Since 1995, Contura, PRK, or photorefractive keratectomy has been the most traditional type of vision correction (Surface therapy, Contura vision).

2. Epi-LASIK / LASEK, which is produced by alcohol in LASEK and a keratome in Epi-LASIK, resembles a PRK more than an epithelial flap.

3. LASIK surgery is the most popular method for treating myopia, hypermetropia, astigmatism, and presbyopia (LASer-Insitu-Keratomileusis). A flap with the ideal thickness and size is created using a microkeratome. The flap is then reflected, and the cornea is subsequently reshaped, using a laser. Since it is painless, safe, accurate, and provides speedy results, it is the ideal method for mild to moderate myopia up to -8 D, hyperopia up to +6 D, astigmatism up to 6 D, and presbyopia.

Complications

Loss of vision as a result of complications is extremely uncommon. However, some LASIK side effects, notably dry eyes and transient vision issues like glare, are very typical.

Few people think these are long-term issues because they typically go away within a few weeks or months.

Risks of LASIK surgery include:

•          Dry eyes. Tear production temporarily reduces after LASIK surgery. Your eyes may appear particularly dry for the first few months after surgery as they heal. Your eyesight may get blurry if you have dry eyes.

Eyedrops for dry eyes could be suggested by your ophthalmologist. You may choose a different technique to have specialized plugs placed in your tear ducts to stop your tears from draining away from the surface of your eyes if you have extremely dry eyes.

•          Glare, halos, and double vision. Night vision issues are possible and normally range from a few days to a few weeks. It's possible to suffer increased light sensitivity, glare, halos around bright lights, or double vision.

Your eyesight in low light (as at dusk or in fog) may be less clear after surgery than it was before, even though a satisfactory visual result is measured under regular testing conditions.

•          Undercorrections. You won't get the improved eyesight you were expecting if the laser destroys too little tissue from your eye. Nearsighted folks are more likely to have under corrections. Within a year, you might require a second LASIK treatment to remove additional tissue.
