Summer is officially here in India. For many, summer means warm weather, beach picnics, tanning, and enjoyment. But with fun, summer also brings a lot of health problems which can be lethal. From sunburn to diseases, summer can bring a lot of chaos into our lives. Especially in India, the rise in temperature during summer is relatively more. 2. Food Poisoning:

Most food-borne viruses and bacteria are active in warm and moist conditions. Several harmful micro-organisms like salmonella and clostridium thrive during the summer. If you are cooking in unhygienic conditions and not storing it properly, there are good chances of the food being contaminated by these dangerous pathogens.


Common symptoms of food poisoning are:

· Vomiting

· Loose motions

· Nausea

· Stomach cramps

· Fever


To prevent food poisoning in the summer, always keep your cooking area or kitchen neat and clean. Avoid eating at fast food joints and unhygienic eateries. Avoid raw meat and fish, and foods that are not cooked at high temperatures.


3. Mumps:

Mumps is an extremely contagious viral disease that often happens to children during the summer. It can easily be transmitted from one person to another through sneezing and coughing. Mumps is a virus that causes swelling on one or both sides of salivary glands near the ears.


Common symptoms include:

· Swollen salivary glands on one or both sides

· Headache

· Fever

· Fatigue

· Loss of appetite


Though the primary prevention of mumps is to get vaccinated, all you can do is wash your hands regularly with soaps and not interact with people who are suffering from colds and coughs.


4. Measles:

Another highly contagious viral disease that can be caused during the summer is measles. The measles virus affects the respiratory system first and then spreads to other organs through the bloodstream. Measles can be transmitted from one infected person to another through touch and air.


Common symptoms include:

· Cough

· Runny nose

· Fever

· Sore throat

· Red eyes

· White spots inside the mouth

· Red measles spots throughout the body

Same as mumps, measles can be stopped by getting vaccinated. Also avoiding contact with those who are having the measles virus.


5. Hay Fever:

It is more kind of an allergy to pollens, dust mites, shredded hairs of animals, etc. rather than disease. Hay fever is usually more frequent in early summer days when the flowers bloom and the pollens are spread into the air. Those whose immunity is not strong enough to fight foreign bodies are more prone to hay fever.


Common symptoms include:

· Fever

· Runny nose

· Coughing

· Sneezing

· Itchy nose and throat

· Fatigue


There is no particular prevention of hay fever as everything is based on your immunity. But what you can do is stay clear of the areas or wear masks where you think there is a possibility of an allergy. If the allergies caught up with you, consult a doctor to ease the symptoms.


Summer can be fun but also dangerous if you are not careful. Some health problems are moderate but some can prove fatal.
