Benefits of ICE EngTech Professional Qualification

If you are an ICE EngTech (a technician member of the Institution of Civil Engineers) or planning to join, ICE can help you move your career in the right direction.

Its professional qualification is a great way to get the credit you are capable of for your technical expertise. It will also help you take your career to the next level.

Attain professional qualification:

If you are an apprentice, a recent graduate or a working technician, becoming a professionally qualified technician can help you show the capability of performing your job with a high level of skill or knowledge.

Your professional qualification will be solid proof of your competency and commitment to your professional career.

Benefits of ICE EngTech professional qualification:

When you attain the status of ICE EngTech, you will be able to call yourself an ‘engineering technician’ and use the letter EngTech MICE after your name.

ICE will issue you this qualification on behalf of the Engineering Council.

In other words, you will become registered with the Engineering Council and a member of ICE at technician grade. In short, you will have a technician grade.

What are the things involved?

The qualification of engineering technician is for anybody working in the construction industry and capable of fulfilling technical work with competency, safety and independence.

You are not required to have specific educational attainments, but having a level of 3 qualifications (BTEC or NVQ) will help you at certain stages of the assessment.

If on apprenticeship, ICE may be able to carry out the End Point Assessment for your apprenticeship making you capable of becoming a qualified member of ICE and awarded the letters EngTech MICE with no further evaluation.

How to start:

Tell ICE the way your experience from work has given you the knowledge and skills you are required to have.

ICE Technician Professional Review application form will help you to do this.

You will be required to include details of your academic qualifications (if applicable), answer 5 questions about how you fulfill the attributes, give your continuing professional development (CPD) records, and have some brief examples of your work.

You also need to pay the Membership application fee and find two sponsors for supporting your application. One of them needs to be a qualified ICE member.

Both of these sponsors have to fill up the Technician Professional Review sponsor statement of support.

After that, ICE will invite you to have an interview: Technician (ICE EngTech) Professional Review without two experienced civil engineers (reviewers), to know your experience much better.
