Places to Visit in Alwar

Alwar is a very peaceful place that is also known as the "Gateway to Rajasthan." This city, which is about 160 km from Delhi, was once the home of the Rajputs, and you can still see some of their glory in this city. The small size of this city doesn't show how important its history is. The city is known for the Indian dessert called "Kalakand," but it is also a great place to visit. Some of the things to see in this city are:

Sariska Tiger Reserve

The Sariska Tiger Reserve is a beautiful National Park that is part of the Aravalli Range and has a lot of different kinds of plants and animals. This National Park is where "Project Tiger" is based, and it is proud of how fast its tiger population is growing. In addition to Bengal tigers, peacocks, leopards, white-throated kingfishers, boars, antelopes, and many other animals live in this park. From Alwar, it is only a short 36 km trip to Sariska. The park has jeep rides and safaris where you can see all kinds of animals, from dancing peacocks during the monsoon to the majesty of Bengal tigers. The excitement of following pugmarks to find a tiger is something no one should miss.

Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri

This strangely named attraction is a tomb for Maharani Musi. It was built by Vinay Singh to honour Rani Musi, who killed herself on the funeral pyre of her husband, Ruler Maharaja Bakhtawar Singh. The most beautiful time of the day to be at the cenotaph is at sunset, when the orange and pink colours of the setting sun hit the marble walls of the upper story. The frescoes on the ceiling tell stories from another time, and the intricate design of the cenotaph adds to its beauty in a new way. When going to Alwar, you can't miss this sight.

Bala Quila

Bala Quila is a beautiful fort on top of a hill in the Aravalli Range. It has a lot of historical importance and offers a great view of Alwar. This fort was built by Hasan Khan Mewati. Before Pratap Singh took it over, it was home to several Mughal rulers. The fort has 5 big towers and 51 small towers on the top of the ridge. It also has 446 musket holes and 8 big bastions all around it. The impressive size of this fort is only matched by the impressive size of the view it offers.

Temple of Jagannath

The most well-known thing about the Jagannath Temple in Alwar is the Rath Yatra, which takes place there every year. This temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath. It has amazing mediaeval architecture, and its huge pillars are decorated with rare flower patterns. During the Rath Yatra festival, the idols of Lord Jagannath, Sitaramji, and Jankiji are carried around in a carriage called the Indra Vimana. This carriage was once pulled by elephants and was used by the ruler of Alwar. It was later given to the temple. For a Religious Traveler, the Rath Yatra of Alwar is a very exciting event.

Bhangarh Fort

The Alwar District is home to the Bhangarh Fort, which is close to the city of Alwar. This area has a strange law that goes along with this cute old fort and its earthy Rajput charm. This law says that no one is allowed to go into the Fort of Bhangarh between sunset and sunrise. Madho Singh lived in the fort of Bhangarh. He was the brother of Raja Man Singh, who was Akbar's right-hand man. The architecture of this Fort of Bhangarh is interesting, and it looks out over the ruins of the palace. A quiet afternoon in the Fort of Bhangarh with a view of the green lower Aravalli hills is a must-do for travellers.

Fairy King

The Fairy Queen, which runs between Delhi and Alwar, is the oldest locomotive engine in the world. This train is a must-see for people who like history and cars. Recently, this engine was fixed up and named a national treasure. The Fairy Queen train is like a palace on wheels. Its rich interiors have a Rajput charm that makes your trip fit for a Royal. This engine was made in England in 1885. It was used to transport people during the Rebellion of 1857. In 1997, it was fixed up and put back into full working order for the first time in 88 years. It is still used to ferry tourists today.

Karni Mata Temple

One of the strangest temples in the world is the one for Karni Mata. About 20,000 black rats called "Kabbas" live in this temple and are worshipped by the people who live there. People think that these rats are Karni Mata's sons who have come back to life. People eat food that these rats have nibbled on as a sign of respect, and when a Kabba dies, a new one made of solid gold takes its place. So, along with the interesting legends that surround this temple, its intricate architecture, like its marble facade and silver gates, is sure to impress any traveller.

So, Alwar has a wide range of things to see and do, from nature to old buildings. It has something for every kind of traveller. At least once in their lives, everyone must feel the earthy magic of Alwar.
