Places to Visit in Gorakhpur

Uttar Pradesh is not only the state with the most people, but it is also the fourth largest. After India got its independence in 1950, this northern state got the name it has today. It is an important and well-known tourist destination because of its rich culture, lively atmosphere, different historical sites, and places of worship.

Gorakhpur is a city on the River Rapti in the north-eastern part of the state. This is where the famous religious leader Saint Gorakhshanath lived, which is how the city got its name. It is a well-known place for families to go on vacation. Here are some of the best places to visit in and nearby.

Gorakhnath Temple

This temple is the most important place of worship for the Nath Sampraday. It is a shrine to the Saint Gorakhnath. He talked about kindness and yoga all over the country. He was an important figure in the Middle Ages because of how he lived. This math is how the city got its name. The temple of Gorakhnath was built in the 12th century. The saint's shrine, his footprints, and the place where he used to sit to do Yog are all kept in the temple. During the Makar Sankranti festival, people are given free food. Yogi Adityanath is the head priest here right now. He has made it his life's work to follow in Baba Gorakhnath's footsteps. Inside the temple grounds, there is also a man-made pond.

Archaeology Museum

This Archeological museum has been around since 1957. It shows the history, rules, culture, traditions, and archaeological finds of both ancient and modern Gorakhpur. It is the most popular tourist spot in the area and is always full of people. It is taken care of by the Department of Indian History, Archeology, and Culture at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay University of Gorakhpur. It's right there in the premises. Ancient coins, sculptures, paintings, stone tools, jewellery from long ago, and even stamps are kept inside. It can be reached every day except when the university is closed.

Gita Press

Gita Press is the best press in the world for publishing Hindu religious scriptures and books at the moment. It began in 1923 when Jaya Dayal Goyandka and Ghanshyam Das Jalan got together to start it. Their main goal was to spread Hinduism, which they call "Sanatan Dharma." It is a lie that this is the right or best way to live. They print the Holy Gita and its interpretations, the holy epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, Purana, Upanishad, and even the works of different saints and gurus. All of this writing is turned into other local languages and sold in those places. Kalyank and Kalyana Kalpataru are two magazines that have been coming out every month since the beginning. There are about 350 people working there right now.

Railway Museum

New to Gorakhpur's tourist attractions are this unique railway museum and the amusement park next to it. It was made available to the public in 2007. The steam engine of Lord Lawrence is the most important thing in this museum. It was made in London in 1874, and a ship took it to India. There's also a photo gallery, uniforms, old clocks, and even other engines. There is also a toy train for kids to play with. It will take about 2 hours to finish the whole museum tour.

Nehru Park

The Laldiggi neighbourhood of Gorakhpur is home to Nehru Park, which is right next to Gita Press. The fountains and lights of many different colours give Nehru Park a very elegant look. Its quiet setting and lush greenery will give you just what you need at the end of a long day: a chance to rest and relax. On September 16, 2005, a memorial to freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bismil and his life was built here. This revolutionary was at the front of both the Manipuri and Kakori plots and the fights against British rule. The park has big lawns, places to have a picnic, and things for kids to do.

Gorakhpur is the best place to go on vacation if you want to relax and see some of India's best sights at the same time. This charming city will win you over with its history and cultural significance.
