Metal Slabs: Introduction & Materials

Metal slabs are made of metal and flat. Metal slab is one of the basic forms used in metal processing. It can be cut and bent into various shapes. Countless daily necessities are made of metal slabs. The thickness of the metal slab may be very different, and thin slices with a thickness of more than 6 mm are considered steel plates or structural steel. The metal slab has flat parts or roll bands. The coil is formed through a continuous metal plate through a roller. There are many different metals that can be made into metal slabs, such as aluminum, brass, and steel.

Metal Slabs Materials

Stainless Steel

Level 304 is the most common of the three levels. It provides good corrosion resistance while maintaining formability and weldability. Level 316 has higher corrosion resistance and strength than 304 at high temperatures. It is usually used for pumps, valves, chemical equipment, and shipping applications. Level 410 is hot-proofing stainless steel, but its corrosion resistance is lower than other levels. It is often used in tableware. The 430 level is the popular level and low-cost alternative to the 300 series level.

Aluminum

Aluminum, due to its flexibility, extensive choice, cost, and other characteristics are also a popular metal for metal slabs.

The 1100-H14 level is commercially pure aluminum with high chemical resistance and weather resistance. It has sufficient ductility, which can be deep and welded, but the intensity is low. It is often used in chemical processing equipment, light reflex, and jewelry.

The 3003-H14 level is stronger than 1100 while maintaining the same formability and low cost. It is corrosion-resistant and welded. The stamping parts, spinning and drawn parts that are often used, mailboxes, cabinets, boxes, and fan blades.

The 5052-H32 level is much stronger than 3003, and it still maintains good molding. It maintains high corrosion resistance and weldability. Common applications include electronic chassis, storage, and pressure vessels.

The 6061-T6 level is a common thermal treatment structure aluminum alloy. It can be welded, and corrosion-resistant and its strength is 5052, but it is not as good as 5052. It loses some intensity during welding. It is used for modern aircraft structures.

Brass

Brass is a copper alloy, which is widely used as metal slabs. Compared with copper, it has higher strength, corrosion resistance, and formability, while maintaining its conductivity. In seal hydraulic molding, the change of the characteristics of the plate coils is a common problem in the process of molding, especially car application materials.
