Best Practices for Skincare

Natural Skincare Tips

The first step to good skincare is understanding your skin type. Everyone’s skin is unique, so it is important to customize your routine to your specific skin type needs. Depending on whether your skin is normal, dry, sensitive or combination, you can then choose products and ingredients that are best suited for your Skin type. Natural or organic products are less likely to contain irritating toxins and often contain minerals, vitamins and antioxidants that can be beneficial for your skin. If you're aiming for natural skin care, try reducing the number of ingredients in your beauty products by opting for a simple cleanser, like oats and honey, or moisturizing with warm coconut oil.

Skincare Habits

Aside from the products you use, it’s important to practice certain habits that can keep skin healthy and glowing. To prevent wrinkles, it’s essential to stay out of direct sunlight, wear SPF 30 sunscreen, and invest in a quality hat and sunglasses. Additionally, quitting smoking can also help prevent wrinkles from forming and keep blemishes away.

It’s also important to keep your skin hydrated, both from the outside and the inside. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day can keep your cells hydrated and even help reduce acne. In addition to drinking water, using a moisturizer and sleeping on a clean, soft pillowcase can also help keep your skin looking luminous and smooth.

Skincare Regimen

Creating a regular skincare regimen is the key to keeping skin healthy and vibrant over time. Start with cleansing. Cleansing helps remove dirt, makeup and oils that can clog pores, leading to breakouts. Use a gentle cleanser that won’t strip your skin of essential oils and witch hazel is a great natural astringent if breakouts are a problem.

After cleansing, always make sure to apply a generous amount of moisturizer. For dry skin, look for a creamy moisturizer with a mixture of oils and humectants. For oilier skin, opt for a thin, water-based moisturizer with ingredients like mineral oil and glycerin.

Finally, don’t forget about exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin twice a week helps to get rid of dead skin cells and allow other skin products to penetrate deeper into the skin’s surface. Natural exfoliants include, sugar, honey and coconut oil, are much gentler on skin that abrasive chemical exfoliants like salicylic acid and harsh scrubs made from nut shells.
