Type of Treatment Increases Levels Of the Missing or Faulty Enzyme That Causes Fabry Disease Treatment

The type of treatment increases the levels of the missing or faulty enzyme in your body that causes Fabry Disease Treatment. The other helps your own enzyme work better. You can get these treatments through a needle infusion (IV) or with a capsule that you take by mouth.

Fabry Disease Treatment tends to be less severe in women. Therefore, you will usually only need to be treated with these medicines if you have symptoms or laboratory evidence of organ damage. Enzyme replacement therapy may cause chills or fever. Your doctor may give you an antihistamine injection to prevent this.

Fabry disease is also associated with potentially life-threatening complications such as progressive kidney failure, heart failure and stroke. Some people have milder forms of the disease that appear later in life, typically affecting only the heart, kidneys or blood vessels in the brain.

Fabry disease is an inherited disorder caused by a build-up of a type of fat called globotriaosylceramide in the body's cells. Starting in childhood, this build-up causes signs and symptoms that affect many parts of the body. Characteristic features of Fabry disease include attacks of pain, especially in the hands and feet (acroparesthesias); clusters of small, dark red spots on the skin called angiokeratomas; a reduced ability to sweat (hypohidrosis); clouding or streaks in the front of the eye (corneal opacity or corneal verticillata); problems with the gastrointestinal system; ringing in the ears (tinnitus); and hearing loss. Other signs and symptoms are possible and may vary from person to person.
